4GB vs. 8GB RAM

Hi guys just a quick question, is it worth getting 8GB on my new desktop? Have heard that 4GB ram is enough.

Computer is just for listen to music, watching videos, web browsing, playing games like football manager.

Also am am not a heavy gamer i take it i would not need one of the gaming cases?

Any info would be appreciated thankyou.

Yes I'm sure 4GB will be enough for your needs. I think it is always good idea to get a reasonable case but you will not need need an extreme gaming case. A case in the £60-£80 range would be a good choice. Post up the spec you are thinking about..

id probably upgrade the case, and you realise that your optical drive will not be able to write on any discs, only read, so if you want to put files on discs in the future you wont be able to do it

laso you may want to remove the free trials as most people think they are pointless although some think there great

The Coolermaster Elite 310 case would be perfectly fine for the specified use, I'd only really upgrade to the Sileo if it needs to be quieter

He has picked two optical drives, the blu-ray cant write, but the DVD one can :) Though it may end up cheaper getting a blu-ray that can write as well and ditch the DVD drive, unless 2 drives are specifically needed (though I haven't checked this).

Dont think i will bother with the Blue-Ray drvie mate then. Is the COOLERMASTER SILEO 500 a decent enough case? 3 month trial is think i will just leave that in.

Well, I've got one, and I don't find it too loud, but it's all personal preference (the only thing I have to compare it to was my old PC that had two loud graphics cards in it that could drown out any noise) and it depends what you think is noisy :)

i didnt see you had 2 drives, and i agree that you are better off getting the blu ray rewrite over 2 of them

Think i will just go for that one mate. It cant be louder than what i have just now. :)

So getting a Blu-ray single drive would be better? 12x BLU-RAY ROM DRIVE, 16x DVD ±R/±RW (£45)

Well, a blu-ray drive will be useful if you ever plan on watching blu-rays :)
And as I mentioned earlier, I think the single blu-ray writer at £45 is cheaper than the total of the blu-ray ROM (30ish) and the DVD choice you selected, the read/write speed of DVD's will be a bit slower, does that matter to you?
Though if you decide you won't be using blu-rays on your PC, the DVD drive will be fine.

That spec is spot on for your needs mate. It will play most modern games at reasonable medium settings and will have no probs with FM. I've got the latest one on pre-order, will be spending many hours on that when it comes out! :)

Cheers mate going to order, would the 8g of ram not make games like football manager run faster. Also would i be able to run more leagues if i got the 8g of ram.

To be honest FM is more CPU intensive than anything else so with a quad core CPU it should run very quick and smooth. As for the RAM, I'm sure 4GB will be plenty as the recommended requirements only show it needing 1GB. 4GB is plenty for any game at the moment so I wouldn't worry.

Thanks mate ordered with the 4GB :)
