@CleLef are you wanting advice?

What is your budget and how much did the above come too? What will you be using the PC for? If gaming, what monitor will you be using?
Please include the configurable link to your spec.

No, it's ordered already. It's a gaming spec mostly for simracing and flight sims in VR, where singlethread/single-core performances are key.

I found the following components to give the best performance/price ratio:

- AMD 5600X
- RTX 3060TI
- 16GB RAM
- 1TB NVMe

I decided to boost the GPU, RAM and NVMe size to make the spec more future proof and more versatile.

The case only comes with 2 120mm fans, one at the front, one at the back. I wasn't sure if this was enough. I upgraded the CPU fan also. If need be I might add extra case fans at the top.

The order came at €2325. It's a good price compared to other shops. I'm worried it might take a while to provision the CPU and the GPU though and assemble the PC. We'll see :)

Not sure what the point of the thread is then? Its in the 'check this spec' section hence I asked :),

The Intel 660p isn’t a good choice. The 2GB version has an endurance of 600TBW, while the equivalent Firecuda 520 2TB has an endurance of 2600TBW - 4.5 times the endurance and 2x-3x the speed.

Edit: correction of a typo on the endurance of the Firecuda.

@steaky360 it's to get people's comments and opinions. Bigoot's for instance is quite interesting.

I didn't know there was an endurance diff. I went with the Intel because it was the cheapest. NVMe speeds (even low ones) are quite fast for me and I wanted to get a decent size (2TB).

On other specs I have here most data is on SSD, some even on HDD. Moving to 2TB NVMe was already quite an upgrade for me. I didn't feel the need to bump it to even faster speeds.

I'm not doubting you for a second, but you you have links to this data - just for interest? :)

I just went to the Intel and Seagate websites and looked up the technical specifications. When doing this, you need to compare the same size of disk. There isn’t a 2TB Samsung 980 Pro, so I didn’t include this. There is a typo on my original comparison. The Firecuda endurance is 2600TBW, so only 4.5 times the endurance. I will edit the original post.

Great, thanks for the pointers. :)

Strange...the manual I linked to lists the Firecuda 2TB as having a TBW of 3600....am I therefore assuming that I have not linked the correct model?
I thought that I had originally found a 3600TBW figure for the 2TB Firecuda 520, but when I checked back I found a figure of 2600. Perhaps an error on my part. in any event either of those figures are massively more than the endurance of the Intel 660p. Even then later Intel 665p only claims 600TBW for 2 TB.

It seems like it is very easy to quote the wrong endurance figure, by inadvertently picking the wrong model number or capacity. It is worth doing the research, though, and the Intel M.2 drives don’t have a good endurance when compared to the competition.

Which VR headset are you using? I believe you may be over-spending on the GPU front, and it's never wise to do so with the "future" in mind, as the future could involve instruction sets that the current line of GPUs cannot do. Spending sensibly right now and saving for the future is the best futureproof plan.

With regards to the storage, the TBW is covered above, the Intel offerings are awful by comparison. Even the standard PCS M2 drives are significantly better. Regardless of this, I would recommend splitting things into 2 drives. A primary drive for Windows & programs, a secondary drive for games and miscellaneous. That way you don't compromise the longevity by backing up 2TB worth of "stuff" when you want to wipe the drive.

I think you could do better for your money and I think there are other areas that you should consider over the GPU.
