7 People live in house, I need better ping.

Hello. I'll keep this short.

I have 60mbps Virgin Media internet with superhub. I am connected with Ethernet cable. Others are using WI-FI and they slow the hell out of my connection(our connection :D ) How do I prioritize my connection? O ar least do something to decrease my ping?

Oh dear, I doubt even the wireless devices can effect it that much, infact it doesnt really effect wired connections at all, try and test it when no one else is using it and you'll likely see its pretty much the same

here are a few things to try
Use a different ethernet port on the router
Use a different ethernet cable
Reboot the router (there is a small button underneath at the back)
Do a speedtest on a couple of wireless devices and possibly another wired device if possible
Make sure all connections are tightened up especially the metal one in the back of the router that requires you screw it in

Also what is the data speed your getting, is it around 60mb/s or is it extremely low?

Running constant pingtests i get 500+ when people are using the wifi, i turn it off (i'm so selfish :D ) and the ping drops to low 80-50. Turn it back on and moments away its again 500+.

Connections are fine,restart doesn't help. ( It helps till everyone reconnects)
And i'm getting max speed all the time when using the connection solo.

Is there some software like DD-WRT or something to make a somesort of QoS or a software that limits,controls router? (firmware is not an option) DD-WRT also is not possible to write onto the superhub.

Do you guys have any friends that are into networking or something? Could you ask them? (possibly networking students or smth.)

Can you not prioritise your connection in your outer settings somewhere (I might actually just be making this up to be honest).

On the Virgin Superhubs there aren't actually a lot of options for doing much at all, you can't even disable the SSID name broadcast!

i guess it doesnt help that virgin slow the internet speeds during busy times! Last time me n keynes looked at it, virgin slowed the speeds from 10am-3pm then 4-9pm or something like that. Depending on your package, resulted in different reductions in speed. I think the faster you are the bigger the reduction. So pretty poop!

I sometimes find that when my missus brother brings his 360 over, it just sucks internet, but as we have unlimited dl's, I just tell steam to dl something lol. then his crappy wireless 360 cant cope lol

They don't slow it per se (ie. they dont slow it for everyone between those times), but they will throttle your connection by 50-75% for 5 hours if you go over a certain amount of data transfer in those timeframes.

So as long as I don't go over my limit, then I see absolutely no reduction in speed during peak times.

On my old 10meg line, once I'd downloaded 750MB, it throttled my speed, on my new 60 meg connection, I'm allowed 5GB in the 4-9 timeframe before I get throttled.

Here is an image to show how much you are allowed between what time frames before you get throttled

ah i see, i get what ya mean rakky! lol

I'd guess though, if 7 peeps are online then 5gig would be smashed pretty quickly, dependent on their uses of course.

However given that turning off the WiFi makes it speed up immediately, I doubt thats whats causing the issue here, obviously with so many people connected it will depend on what theyre doing - possibly one of the connected machines/phones is hogging the bandwidth.
