hey guys,

I'm currently thinking of purchasing a new computer from this website. This computer will be used mainly for gaming and therefore must be able to run most new games comfortably.

I was wondering if you people could possibly post the best combinations of components for high performance and post them in this thread?

my budget is £1000, i already have a monitor, mouse and keyboard suitable for gaming :)

please give reasons for your choices

any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I agree with Sweeney's spec, would be difficult to get better.

IF you don't plan on adding a second GTX460 in the future, you could get away with having the Corsair TX650 which will get the price ever closer to the £1,000 mark.

hey,

thanks for the replies they've helped a lot! i think i will probably get around to adding a second gtx460 in the future to be honest.

i'm planning on playing the new call of duty (black ops) when its eventually released, do you think this machine would be able to run it on semi-decent settings with a relatively high frame rate?

It should do, its essentially the same setup I have except I have a watercooler (rather then the fenrir) and I have a 5870 (which would put you way outside budget). Ofcourse if you're going to get the 460GTX at a later date it depends what card you will be putting in in the mean time. In terms of CPU and everything, its a got a great punch and will handle any game for several years, if you get a high end graphics card in there too, you're looking at maximum settings for several years also :p

Also randomone, i recommend pcspecialist. I didnt find anywhere as competative as them and im very pleased with my pc so far. Their tech support and the help you get here on the forums is second to none.

i plan on using one GTX460 with my new machine, adding a second in the future. If that system will run top games a high settings then thats awesome! exactly what i wanted

It should run quite a few games in High settings, but not all. Call of Duty games arn't as demanding as a lot of new games, so i would think the GTX 460 will run it fine, possibly in all high settings. You should check some benchmarks for newer games with the GTX 460 on youtube to help you out.

If your a pure gamer, the spec above is fantastic, if you wnt HD video editing, go for an i7 with loads of ram and a lesser video card

pure gaming all the way, im not really interested in the video editing side of things. When you say the spec above, do you mean the first spec or the second spec? im assuming second but i may be wrong..

The one I made, the majority of games use 2 cores as a maximum now too so even a quad core is OTT, however games are coming out soon, seriously save yourself a little money and get a faster games machine :)

I'd go with Pauls quote as that way you get two copies of Just Cause, of which you can send me one. Thank you please. :)

Or you could give ME the game ;) Still annoyed about that haha, must have missed it by no mroe than a week as per usual xD

You could also take out the 460s and put 1 470 in, i'm currently maxing GTA IV out on that so no reason why it wouldnt max Black Ops, etc, and then you still have one SLI slot left for a second 470 in a year's time or so. Just some more ideas for you :)

LOL Matt :)

All i can tell you is that the game is worth getting as it rocks :) its nice to actually be able to play a win7\vista only game without feeling jealous now :) My system is a bit overkill for gaming and 3d modelling but i mainly went for it so that it would last me a good while as upgrading is a real pain sometimes. It took me two weeks to set this one up properly
