adding a ssd

so ive got a vortex IV 17" and was thinking of sticking in a samsung ssd as my main drive and making my current hdd into my d: drive
i was wondering if it mattered what hard drive port i put them in?

there is the main one in the middle and the other one under the optical drive. does the mobo prioritise them at all? can the c: drive be in the second slot and still work ok or does it demand the main drive be in the main slot?

it wouldnt be a massive addition to the work needed to swap them over, instead of just putting one in, but the more i need to do the greater a chance i could mess something up so would prefer to leave as much where it is as i can

Check your manual, or better yet look at the colours of the ports if they show on the laptop.
One may be a SATA III 6Gbs while the other a SATA III 3Gbs. Ideally you will wan the SSD in the 6Gbs connection. I would guess if they are different the spot where the DVD drive usually goes would be the 3Gbs connection
