I recently changed my motheroard from Motherboard ASUS® M4A87TD/USB3: DUAL DDR3,SATA 6.0GB/s, USB 3.0 to ASUS® M4N98TD EVO: DDR3, 2-Way SLI, SATA 3.0GB/s to make way for a 2nd gtx 70 in the future maybe in a year. but didnt realise that i would lose usb 3.0. is this a bad move on my part?

Not really, even USB 3 external HDDs are pointless, u still end up converting from USB to SATA language and vica versa each time, so speed increase (ok there is one) is mostly lost as this task remains. Maybe super fast usb memory sticks?

BUT, you can buy a PCI express USB3 expansion card to slot into your motherboard anyways so I wouldnt fret!

ah thanks :)whats the dif between sata 3.0 and 6.0? also sleinous i was chatting about you when upgrading and we both agreed you should be paid ;) lol so maybe u should ask for a job :D lol :p

Sata 6.0 is basically faster. Problem is, mechanical drives @ 7200RPM dont even fully utilise 3.0 yet, not so sure about the 10000RPM drives, they may just about, one thing is certain, neither of them use Sata 6.0 fully! :p

SSDs still use a Sata 3.0 interface, there is no Sata 6.0 release, well mainstream I mean, there may be a corporate one somewhere. Sata 6.0 drives will be released by Intel in Q1 2011, (3rd gen) but I dont expect even these drives to fully utilise Sata 6.0 :) So there we have it, for the time being its just an advertising gimmick, but, soon, we will be utilising Sata 6G fully.

would of it been best not to do the sli and the keep the motherboard on how it was? or was it a good move to sli and purchase another graphics card in say a year or so.. maybe less?

Going SLI is deffinatly a good idea, yes buy a second GTX 470 in a year or so, or whenever Nvidia stops producing teh chips, whichever is soonest. This is what I will be doing. Stick with the SLI mobo.

will do thanks :) it went into building today :) 12th working day slightly over aprox dates but im sure it will be worth the wait.. cant wait to start playing games again :D

Just to add another point of view, while yes the performance increase with SLI can be impressive the computer will be consuming more power and producing more heat+noise.
