AMD GPU & General Build Query.

Hi,

I recently made a order for a new PC with 'PCS'. Upon ordering, I assumed I will be receiving a reference AMD 6800 however I realised in the forums that PCS build with non-reference cards too. This isn't a problem however is it possible to know which manufacturer of card I will be receiving? Do PCS only use certain ones? I noticed the XFX 6800 series seems to be the most prevalent on the forums at the moment and these cards offer great OC according to the website and I will make use of any factory OC settings.


Also as I can still amend/upgrade my order, I wondered if anyone had any advice if a Rx 6800 XT would be worth upgrading to from my currently ordered Rx 6800?
The price difference is £114. Moreover, would the PSU have to be upgraded also to a 750W?
As a reference, I will be using a 1440p 144hz Monitor and I mainly play Rust which is pretty GPU intense game. Other than Rust, older open world games such as Skyrim, Fallout 4, Total War series.

I do have some PC knowledge as this isn't my first gaming PC, however any advice would be great!

The RX 6800 will be more than fine for 1440p. It wouldn't be worth upgrading that any further however using that money to change the CPU to the 5600x and the wireless network card to the Intel AX would be money well spent :)

I would also recommend upping the GPU to 750 or 850W just to support any future upgrades :)

Only PCS will know what brand card it will be at the time it comes to build. GPU shortages mean they're scrambling to get whatever they can.

Yes just done a quick search and with the small price bump, totally worth it like you've mentioned as I will be using Wifi only!

Also regarding your previous mention about the CPU:
It wouldn't be worth upgrading that any further however using that money to change the CPU to the 5600x

Is that to offer a high FPS or just overall computing power? I mainly would look towards a higher FPS bump personally as this is just for gaming 95% of the time. I understand the SAM feature will be enabled?

no, if it comes as an overclocked card from the manufacture that is how PCS would put it into the build, but if you overclock it, you can kiss goodbye to your warranty

In terms of pure FPS it won't make a massive difference but will vary game to game. In terms of longevity of the build you will get more life out of the 5600x and also to use the S.A.M feature you need a 5000 series CPU. It won't make much difference on many games today but future games which start taking advantage of the tech will benefit from it.

Okay, that's worth taking a note off thanks. I'll mull it over the weekend. Have already added Intel AX Wifi card and 750W upgrade to my amends list, appreciate the advice! :)

The simplest way to look at it is spending a bit extra now, it saves you more money in the long run as you won't need a whole new PC for 7/8 years, just the GPU upgrades.

By the way, I have never used AIO cooling before such as the 240 Coolermaster. I have only used air cooling. Will it offer a good step up from the standard AMD cooler?

Significant difference. It's a bit overkill for the 3600 but I never like to skimp on cooling anyway

Just going back on the warranty topic, if I ever added anything to the PC during the warranty period such as fans, additional storage, RGB, coolers or hardware etc, does it void the PCS warranty?

For example, installing a SSD a few months down the line?

No they have an open case policy so you can install you own parts. :)
