regards sound, i suggest asking @SpyderTracks as he is local audiophile. However as far as i know. Sound cards are not a way to go for serious sound production or listening. You will have much better results opting for external DACs

What audio work are you doing? What software/DAWs do you use?

Any reason for the gaming soundcard if you’re using a FireWire soundcard?

what’s your max budget?

Hi All

Thank you for replies so FYI, I have a personal home recording studio / room set up. I use a combination of Acoustica Mixcraft Pro studio 9, Reaper and Harrison Mixbus. I have an LG 22inch Monitor and am using a pair of Presonus Eris 3.5 inch Studio Speakers. I have a number of VST Instruments ie Sampletank, Miroslav Philharmonic, Sample Moog and Sample Tron along with EZ Drummer 2 with 8 Kits.
I'm also using Sibelius 5. My Budget is around £950. I do have a quote saved for an AMD set up. I also use an all in one recording setup with my Korg D3200 recording setup with a set of Samson Resolve 40a Active studio monitors. As far as the the soundcard goes, i would have to put my current card into the new PC as PC Specialist don't put firewire cards in any more. I would like to record some decent video for You tube purposes I have a fairly decent webcam i think - Logitech C920. I also use a Zoom Q2n 4K video recorder so need a SD/ Micro SD card reader. Finally i do need a DVD / CD writer.
My main objective is to use my audio software without drop outs / glitches etc. I wont be using a lot of tracks mostly acoustic songs, I'm not a great believer in tracking 3 guitar tracks etc One singer one mic.

Thanks for reading and hope this clarifies my setup for advice

Cheers!

Do you have a copy of windows that you can transfer over therefor saving on the license cost? You can transfer any copy of windows 7 up to windows 10 legitimately for free.

Excellent synopsis btw, that makes it really clear about your requirements.

This would be a first proposition, just serious leaps and bounds ahead of the intel build you posted. Will pad it out with reasons for components:

Case
FRACTAL FOCUS G BLACK GAMING CASE (Window) Superior budget case for airflow, discreet looks, plus has a space for internal DVD drive
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Six Core CPU (3.7GHz-4.6GHz/35MB CACHE/AM4) Just an entirely different league to the Intel option, 12 threads would be incredible for your uses
ASUS® STRIX B550-F GAMING (DDR4, USB 3.2, 6Gb/s) - ARGB Ready! One of the lowest DPC latency boards available currently, perfect for audio, also has the option for a Thunderbolt add in card which costs around £100 - will post more separately
Memory (RAM)

16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE 710 - DVI, HDMI, VGA
1st Storage Drive
1TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 64MB CACHE
1st M.2 SSD Drive
512GB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD (2000 MB/R, 1100 MB/W)
DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM Just stuck with simple DVD rather than BluRay
Power Supply

CORSAIR 750W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET Overpowered for 2 reasons, higher tier fully modular so less cables in the build leading to better airflow leading to lower temps. Plus operates at around 40% capacity with passive cooling, so quieter with no fan running
Power Cable

1 x 1 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
Corsair H80i V2 Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler Chosen as very quiet operation compared to air and better performance also
Thermal Paste

STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING Cooler comes with high quality paste pre applied
Sound Card

ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT
Wireless Network Card
WIRELESS INTEL® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 2,400Mbps/5GHz, 300Mbps/2.4GHz PCI-E CARD + BT 5.0 More modern wifi card with better modern connectivity standards
USB/Thunderbolt Options

MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS

Following on from above, you can legitimately upgrade your current windows 7 to windows 10 for free:

Then once it's on windows 10, you can convert your license to a digital license legitimately for free which means you can then transfer it to the new build:

You can update your current Win7 install to Win10 for Free by using the windows update service. Me personally I would go for more cores on the cpu as this will give you more threads to work with if your VTS plugins. Question are you sure about the small 1tb hard drive? it will not take long filling that up with samples plus also if you have a few jamming sessions or do vocals.

Just a further note on the motherboard, working with Reaper and the soundcards you have, I am betting you've been doing audio work for some time, so you'll likely be familiar with the significance of DPC latency related to drivers on a windows system particularly.

The Strix B550 is one of the most impressive boards relating to DPC Latency, as you can see in the testing below (just scroll down to the DPC latency section):

Furthermore, B550 boards have a Thunderbolt header on the motherboard, it doesn't natively support thunderbolt, but it does have an optional Thunderbolt 3 add in card which you can get under £100

Hi just on the extra 1tb hard drive I have other external USB 2.0 drive and also FireWire Drive that I can use.
I also don't want to depend totally on my PC I'm also thinking of getting something like the Zoom livetrack 12 or Tascam Model 12 which can be used on their own as well.

Thx again

Heads up on the H80i, without the quiet fan selection I don't think it's actually that quiet? Unless they changed something with the V2?

I would want the h100i offering with the ML fans on an audio system. It's pricy, but definitely worthwhile.

I saved a quote based on Spydertracks recommendations, however when I checked my specs PC specialist advised not to install Windows 7 as its no longer supported and I may not be able to install correctly.
