You can install Windows 7 on anything that will run. The difficulty is knowing what will work and what won't. It depends whether the manufacturers of the hardware have created compatible drivers.

For the most part the answer is likely yes, but there will be the odd limitation. The most dangerous aspect is the chipset, if you can't get decent drivers for it your system will be completely hamstrung.

With that all being said, installing Win7 on a modern system is a VERY bad idea. Win 10 should be able to do everything you need with no need to downgrade to an older OS.

Hi Folks just a query

I saved a quote based on Spydertracks recommendations, however when I checked my specs PC specialist advised not to install Windows 7 as its no longer supported and I may not be able to install correctly. As we advised, you don’t want to install windows 7 at all. Windows 7 has been end of life for over a year.

You want to upgrade your existing windows to 10 so that you can transfer it over. The links show you through each process.

@pkev
IF you already have/own win 7 you do not need to pay £80 for win10 from PCS. You can still install win 7 on your new PC and then upgrade it to Win 10 for FREE. here is an up to date guide on how to upgrade from win 7 to win 10 :https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq/how-to-upgrade-from-windows-7-to-windows-10.2364162/
That’s a very backwards way of doing it though as once you’d upgraded you’d then have to clean install all over again.

Makes sense to upgrade in the old system and create digital license, then install win 10 on new system and sign in with ms account to apply the license.

May seem a little Backwards and take a little bit extra time. But i think the saving's far out way the cost of buying Win10 considering Windows 11 is due for release this year.
oh you mean upgrade on old system first then move the harddrive to the new PC,, yea totally agree with you there.

Hi Just a quick query - I ordered a desktop PC on 19th June - As of today the status of the order is in pre-production for 19 days. Its been going up a day everyday for the past week or so I'm not clear now as to any timescales at all. I understand my order is in a Q, just that the Q appears to be getting longer!
Any ideas...anyone

Thx
Pkev

Hi @pkev

The counter is just telling you how many working days you have been waiting and what stage your order is. The main decider in how long you will be waiting for is the Graphics card you selected, so for example the RTX 3080 queue is roughly a 100 days wait

If you put your spec up other posters might be able to give you an idea on queue times for other cards

If you post the spec as described here, we'll be able to assist better as we may see something else holding it up

Unfortunately the changes you’ve made are going to make this a pretty poor build for audio, B450 is awful with regards to audio work and would t be recommended at all.
Do you realise you’ve ordered a 2 year old system?

Hi there

Thanks for your reply spyder, I'm not really computer savvy, my last PC was an M2V Mobo with a socket AM2 i think, that PC lasted me for maybe 15+ years. The reason i went to PC specialist was because i would have thought the builds offered would be upto date.
The other point is, I have limited funds and fortunately I don't have to depend on PC for all my audio. I need a decent basic general workstation. Anyway what i can do now that ive bought the thing is to live with it for a while then if needs must i can change it.
I need to stick with some kind of build within my budget as I dont have a spare £1200 - £4000. My wife isn't that generous!!

Thanks
Pkev

Unfortunately the changes you've made means that you can't upgrade it, that's kind of the point.

Have you actually received it already or is it in the queue?

What was wrong with the system specified previously? Was it too expensive? You seemed pretty happy with it but then reduced a lot of the main parts to the point of no return.
