Audio Problem

I had to reinstall the realtek driver as my audio disappeared for some reason. Now when I install the driver from the stick it unistalls the current driver first, which seems to start the audio working again. But then has to reboot in order to reinstall the driver, at which point it stops working again.

I've tried to go through the unistall process which gets the audio working again but then everytime I have to reboot, the audio stops working.

Right first things first uninstall the Norton 360 Malware as described here https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk/home/current/solutions/v15972972

Once you've got rid of that just use the built in windows Defender

Next uninstall your existing audio drivers, reboot the laptop, then check both windows normal and optional updates and install all of both, then see if you've got sound (I'm assuming you've not accidentally hit a mute button somewhere), and report back here (anything on that stick will likely be well out of date)

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your reply.

I already had rid of Norton when I first got the laptop! Defo not muted.

I've tried several times to uninstall the realtek drivers but windows puts them back almost instantly. The stick I've got came with the laptop and the driver is from Jan 2024.

When I run the realtek install file, it first removes the current driver, which then seems to cure the audio problem. But then it wants to reboot and upon rebooting it reinstalls the driver which stops the audio working for some weird reason.

The only workaround at the moment is to cancel the reboot after the current driver has been removed. So that it doesn't go through the install process.

Is there another way to remove the driver other than using the realtek executable? I've tried through device manager but to no avail.

Thanks.

I see you've got soundblaster audio.

"
Sound Card
2 Channel High Def. Audio + SoundBlaster™ Studio"

Make sure you download the soundblaster software from the PCS page for your purchase.

Login to PCS, Click 'Tech Support' then 'Downloads' Then 'Windows 11' Then download the audio drive and the soundblaster is called 'SBX' on mine.

Thanks. Mine is realtek and i've tried your suggestion and still the same outcome unfortunately.

This folder only contains realtek driver. No SBX app.

It’s not a driver, the driver is the realtek, sound blaster is the overlay
yes i know but only reinstalling the driver gets it to work again up until the final reboot after install and then it stops working again. Installing the soundblaster software makes no difference.

Yes so what’s the audio output in windows once you’ve rebooted?

it's a laptop so it's internal speakers. Not quite sure if that's what you mean?
No, on the audio output in windows it will list available outputs such as speakers, monitor etc etc, can you take a screenshot of which one is selected in the list?
