Hi guys,
My mate wants to upgrade his GPU. He has a budget of about £200.
I was thinking GTX 660ti.

Any suggestions? I'm not sure what AMD cards are good.
Thanks

The AMD equivalent is probably the HD 7950 but I think those two are more than £200.

Overclocked I think, am I allowed to link to the company that shares it's name with a rainforest?

hahaha. lol

If you wanted to hold off a little while, you may be able to get a 770ti for a similar price.

Thanks. I'll suggest it. I don't think he's in any rush. He told me before Christmas that he needed to upgrade it...

So, the GTX 760 is more readily available now and seems to be great value for money.
I was wondering though if anybody had any thoughts which would be better out of:
ASUS
Or
EVGA

Based on looks alone I would probably suggest the Asus one to him, but hey, what do I know? I'm basing it on looks..

I'd go for the evga card, upon registering you get 3 years warranty (which is transferable if you sell the card) and valid even if you remove the gpu heatsink.

they will probably perform the same. :)

well, one of my 580's failed went back to PCS and back to Palit twice. The first time it came bk with major heating issues, which i returned to PCS and the second time it came back with the exact same problem but Palit said it was fine.

I took the heatsink of the 580 yesterday (which i couldn't do previously because i would lose my warranty) and the thermal paste was completely dried up and crusty (lol) and in other words disgusting. Took me about 15mins to clean the gpu core and the heatsink. Its most probable that the high temps were because of this.

Also note, that PCS wouldn't be able to remove the heatsink either otherwise they would void the warranty too. So basically upon two rma's to Palit my 580 wasn't re-pasted even once. Had I been able to remove the heatsink without voiding the warranty, maybe the second rma wouldn't have been required.

But that is just my experience, and on the contrary, my other 580 (now sold) has always been fine.

I'd vote for the EVGA card any day.
