When I was quite young, my eldest cousin would often say to me that The Beach Boys were the best band in history. I just didn't get it at the time, anything black and white on TV was "old" and not something I was interested in, same with music, even pre-90's to me was old hat and boring.
Then the dark days took their toll. Once I'd recovered, in around 2016 I imported a new limited edition anniversary copy of Pet Sounds off the cuff, my cousins words still in my ears (I still respect that man to the hilt). I now have 4 copies because it took me a little while to find the Analogue Productions copies in both Mono and Stereo (far prefer the Stereo personally).
And I started discovering piece by piece the absolute genius that was the Beach Boys, and of course, Brian Wilson WAS The Beach Boys.
But even forgetting everything else, simply the magic of God Only Knows is enough to secure him as an absolute genius for me, the harmonies, the music, and the words just come together so utterly perfectly. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard
He battled most of his life, I really hope he finds peace.
