Build advice intel vs amd

Is this motherboard completely useless? ASUS® H310-PLUS R2.0

I am looking to pair with an Intel i5-9400f and GTX 1650. For gaming purposes.

The Z370 was out of stock, so I am either stuck with this, or I upgrade my motherboard, and with doing so I would also need to get a 10400f at-least to match.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks,
Diogo

Unless you have a specific reason to why you want intel, at this time AMD is highly recommended as its better price for performance and there’s a sticky thread directed to the issues with intel made by SpyderTracks. I’d suggest you go check that out and swap to an AMD build, and if you prefer intel over AMD as a personal choice, thats completely up to you.

With the motherboard pairing, I believe that motherboard should be fine since the 1650 and the i5 dont require a higher end motherboard since they’re older components.

And once you've come up with a full build, feel free to post the full spec in the 'check this spec!' forum for us to check over and make sure you're getting the best PC for the money. You'll find the info we need along with your spec in that sticky thread too. Also don't forget to include the link at the bottom, it's super useful for us!

Is this for a PC Specialist build? If so, can you post the full build you're considering please. We can't really give advice on components in isolation and we can only offer advice on PC Specialist builds.

Thanks for your replies!

My build currently is below:

I have 2 friends helping me on this aswell, basically I would get a bettter GPU but nothing is in stock. I have no preference for Intel over AMD and vice versa.

I just want something to game on with my friends that quite easily hits 120 fps on most settings and not super intensive games like COD or Story mode games as i'll use a PS5 anyways. Mainly like Valorant, Overwatch etc which I know aren't too demanding, but again I have a decent budget to get something that looks like too and is fairly future proof.

Was thinking of swapping the i5-9400f for the AMD Ryzen 5 3600? I'd welcome your thoughts on this and if I should change anything else too.

Thanks,
Diogo

I'd highly recommend going for a AMD system in today's market, they're much better for almost every use apart from a few. Also knowing your exact budget would be good so we know what to spec the system to. And your monitor, either the make and model or resolution AND refresh rate. Also the link at the bottom would be very useful as it'll allow us to make changes and suggestions a lot easier.

Also being honest, £750 will not get you a good gaming PC in today's market, prices are high because of covid and wait times are long. We could try and spec you a system but getting one that is somewhat futureproof is likely to come closer to the £900-£1000 mark. If you do have these funds I would honestly recommend waiting as you'll get a lot more for your money in a few months time. Also, NVIDIA is half way through launching their 3000 series of GPU's and have no more budget friendly options available, although the 3060 will be out in a couple of days and the 3050 will be out later this year.

This is a much stronger and balanced build than your first build, for a budget I'd recommend this one

Best to keep to one thread for advice. I think the AMD vs Intel has been covered nicely and the specs offered are as good as you will get for the budget :)

Thanks everyone, really appreciate the help.

My monitor is a BENQ Mobiuz EX2510 (120hz) Decent monitor from what I've seen on reviews and has been serving me well.

With changing the i5-9400f to the Ryzen 3600, is a stock cooler okay? I don't mind paying more for a better cooler if it's worth it? Also, is the 3600 fine, or is it worth getting an X version or something slightly better? Without having bottleneck issues or whatever with the GPU I currently have. (I would consider upgrading my GPU once something better comes in stock lol).

Also, I think 256gb m.2 SSD and like a 1TB Barracuda for everything else separate should be fine for my kind of use. Does the power supply make a huge difference? I can see the recommended build above have the ultra quiet?

Any final thoughts?? :)

And yes.. Jersey isn't too bad with no VAT ;)

Don't go for the Wifi motherboard, get the AX2000 network card. Offers a much better Wifi signal and also comes with Bluetooth should you ever need it. also it's cheap as chips

Expect The Bullguard is on by default but ditch it as Windows Defender is fine, plus Bullguard can cause problems.
