Control Center

Hi,

I sent my laptop to a local repair guy, upon return the old version of Control Center was magically updated.(not ideal)

Specs as follows -

It used to look like this -

But now - the newest version.

My issue is, previous I would close a game and just leave the fan speed boost on for a short period of time and then all fans would then allow me to have a quiet mode regardless of whether I was watching Twitch or browsing or working via chrome.

I cannot control the fan speeds on office/Balance or Turbo mode only with custom mode which is a pain.

Any ideas on the settings to allow for 'quiet fans' and how to fix this?

Regards

Is this a pcspecialist system? Can you copy and paste your full specs from the order page on your account?

?

Different specs to what’s showing on your control center?
Yeah so I took it to get new thermal paste applied to CPU and GPU he cleaned out all dust etc too. The reason I done this is Control Center was showing CPU Usage very high even on idle. And it was running hotter than usual, whilst playing games on lower settings also.

He used a program called core-temp and everything seemed fine to him. But this wasn't matching upto Control Center.

High temps would be entirely normal, the system needs to be repasted once a year or so to maintain thermals.

I would just uninstall the current control center and reinstall it from the downloads section in support from your main PCS account.

Unfortunately as you've taken it to a 3rd party repair place, it may have invalidated your warranty.

I agree with @SpyderTracks.

I was also curious why the person who performed the maintenance purposefully uninstalled and replaced your control center with another version. Where did he find it? The only version that should be installed is the one from your PCS account's download section.

Other versions may not be 100% compatible and most likely cause issues.

If you can't find the version of control center on your PCS homepage login (downloads section), I'd give PCS a call to discuss it as they may have a workaround/solution.

Whilst I can't speak for them, I'd think this won't affect your warranty as you could have performed all those maintenance tasks yourself so getting someone else to do it shouldn't be a problem.

PCS have a flexible policy when it comes to opening up the hardware for repair/cleaning etc. but it does exclude sending to a third party for repairs.

That said, in future, I'd consider giving PCS a call in the first instance (should any future need arise) as they might be able to offer remote assistance for software type issues and perhaps guide you through some hardware troubleshooting if needs be.

Hi,

The 3rd party didn't reinstall the app it came back an updated version as can be seen via the screenshots I've used. All he did was replace thermal paste on the 2 units I mentioned.

On the other versions of the app, I had more control over what I wanted I could have it on office mode after I'd finished a game and closed it with fan boost on.

This is difficult to believe because the TongFang control center lacks an auto updater feature and can only be done manually by unistall and reinstall a newer version.

You have essentially the same laptop as me (I have the i7 12700H rather than the i9 12900H), and I can assure you that the control center cannot be updated; it must be manually uninstalled and reinstalled, so someone did it 100%.

PS The most recent 100% compatible CC version for that chassis is 4.9.47.11.

I’m afraid that’s not possible, control center doesn’t update unless manually done so.

As advised, uninstall it and reinstall the proper version

You mention the specs i've shown from initial build and what I showed you was different? Or am I blind and can't see that.
I can't see changes in specs. I wouldn't worry about that.

If you're wanting the old version of control center back, best thing to do is to download the copy attached to your PCS login

  • Go to the main PCS site > My Account
  • Tech Support Dropdown > Downloads
  • It should be listed there.

If its not, I'd strongly urge you give PCS a call. They'll help talk you through where to get the most appropriate version for your laptop.
