Do I need an Overclocked PC?

Hello everyone,

I was thinking to myself do I really need an overclocked PC.

My main things I'm going to be doing are
  • Watching HD Movies
  • Recording HD Freeview TV and Watching
  • Video Editing on Sony Vegas.
  • Internet Browsing and watching TV WHILST video is rendering after editing.

My only reason for getting an overclocked PC would be that when video is rendering will it help me watch freeview TV or HD Films and browse the Internet and so on...

So
1) Do I need an overclocked PC?
2) Will the Overclocked PC use more electric/energy?

You really only need an overclocked computer for getting the very best performance on the latest high-end, demanding 3D games.

Quite the opposite, for practical uses I used to overclock to get high end performance from less than top end equipment.
If your overclocking high-end gear its really just a hobby

Its multi cores that you need ,one for each action eg 1 core will do the editing in the background while you use another core to watch tv.
Overclocking will only reduce the time of the editing and won't mean you can do more things
It's the thinking behind multi tasking PC's.

Thanks everyone.

Hello Raptor, I'm going to spend £1,850 max despite my original budget in the other thread you also helped me in. Thanks again for your help.

Grinder has explained, if I'm interpreting this right, that I don't need a Overclocked PC I guess since the Quad Core processor will deal with it.
