Dont let anyone tell you how to spend your money. Enjoy, you have to start somewhere, whats the point of a monster monitor wihtout a pc to play it on.

Your build seems very nice. Storage etc is easy to upgrade. You have good bones there.

Just an fyi myself and others have been waiting for my 3080 build since the 17th. Been getting the automated emails since then. Just be pre pared to wait. Its a nightmare getting these card at the moment. Not a PCS thing at all just in general everywhere.

PC gaming is awesome night and day compare to consoles. Well worth the investment.
The irony in that first sentence Is amazing. 😂

Woah! Some reading to wake up to

Ok. Yes, I suspect that the 3080 is overpowered for me currently.....
However, my purchase is based on the
1. I may actually get a system this year that can run ray tracing over the latest and greatest (CyberPunk) - However it would appear that the 3080 is rarer than [insert cliche about a rocking horse]
2. All the games talked about are older games. I have an Xbox X. And usually I'd be a console gamer. However, I'd like to move to PC Gaming now. So something as 'powerful' as the new Xbox would be nice.
3. If the 3070 is available prior to the 3080 I'll see if I can swap the build. But chances are, I'll probably pick up a 4k monitor in the future if this working from home carries on

What I will say is. I understand the comments. I'm not going in blind. I've waited 6 months to press pay! And I do appreciate the time someone has spent to read the comments and reply.

Re Storage. That was simply a cost thing. I figure the cost of drives always falls. I have an external drive at home that'll do the job 'in the meantime'

And who knows. Maybe the build will arrive on the 29th as the email from PCS states?

Greetings, OP. Firstly, I’m going to offer an apology on behalf of all concerned for your thread being somewhat derailed. At least it didn’t devolve into childish insults and name-calling 😜

Fair enough about the storage, as @target680 says, it’s an easy upgrade so if something had to be sacrificed for budget purposes that was a decent call.

Regarding the debate over the 3070/3080 situation, the 3070 (as you probably know) was given a two week delay so it’s due this coming Thursday. That means that hopefully Nvidia have learned a lesson and stocks will be somewhat more plentiful. The 70 cards also tend to be more freely available because it’s the 80s that come with the ‘I’ve got the the most powerful gaming GPU’ bragging rights.

So for practical high settings gaming, a 3070 will happily run a 4K 60Hz monitor or a 1440p 144Hz ultrawide. If you’re looking at a monster monitor like the Samsung G9 or a 4K 144Hz screen, that’s where the 3080 will come into its own.

Welcome to the PC master race, my friend 😁👍

It must be an adult insult saying the 3080 is for bragging rights lol, I'll be happy bragging to my many non gamer friends (sad noise)

Yeah, let's see what happens with the 3070 stock. If I can get one earlier than 3080. If not. No great shakes.
In respect of bragging rights. I can 100% inform everyone. No one I know personally cares two hoots about gaming haha ;-)

I've been riding motorbikes my entire life. Currently got, what some may say the 3070 version. Suitability priced, and sensible performance. And for my ability. It's spot on
Triumph 765 RS

However...In the past i've owned an R1 / ZX10R - WAAAAAAY too much performance for the road. But. On that one day each year, when the motorway slip road is clear and you can safely speed up to , er. 70mph. It's awesome :)

The R1! That bike is just too much. One of my old school friend’s dads back home up north is hugely into bikes (he’s good mates with TT legend John McGuinness) and he took me for a ride on his R1. Sat on that minuscule pillion seat and feeling the sheer forces of the acceleration it has is probably the most terrified I have ever been in my life.

We love you Ukraine
I get the comparison, but remember, while a sports bike is able to reach over 70mph if the rider wants to, the whole point with a mismatched screen is that the screen is bottlenecking the card, so it would be like your sports bike actually having a limiter in place and unable to go over 70 even if you put your foot down.

In the case of a 144Hz 1440p monitor, the 3080 will vastly outdo that on the majority of games, but the screen would stop it being able to, hence, poor pairing. If you really wanted to stay on 1440p, then get a 240Hz screen, or if high refresh over 120Hz isn't something you're able to appreciate (which the majority of humans can't), then get a 4k 144Hz screen.

Just as way of an update. I swapped out the 3080 to the 3070
Strange that on the order, it states I need 755w?
Id' have thought I need less. Anyway. Saved £170, can add that back into the storage pot....think I'll keep the 3600 over the x / xt 5600. Thougths
