Hi, I'm looking to upgrade from my current pc to a more high spec gaming pc that's going to last a good few years before needing any upgrades. My budget isn't massive so I'm trying to get the best performance out of it for under £1,200 and just want to check if I've got this set up right. Any advice is appreciated :)

Hi, the monitor is a Samsung T24E300EX. No other uses like that, just general computer usage and then gaming.

I'm happy to upgrade the monitor at some point, just want to check that the computer specs will be relatively future-proof and able to handle high spec games

Its a shame, looks like it would be quite a decent monitor when it first came out.
IPS, 5ms response timer and 1080p full HD

Its a bit of a dinosaur now though.

It does the job, but there's definitely room for improvement :) How much would a more suitable monitor be?

Your budget (realistically) still sits you at 1080p still if you want high specs on settings, and you would be looking at something like the 1660 Super. There are new cards releasing and im sure i've read somewhere about rereleasing the 1660 following the 3000's which start coming out this month. That will drop prices on the current 2000 range so it might be worth thinking about when you want this PC by, and if you can add to teh budget to reach a decent level for 1440p which is more the mainstream these days.

It would not make much sense not to replace the monitor, the most it will ever display is 60fps, a Nividia GTX 1650 would still be plenty but you're building an "old" PC.

So if we're going tight on budget, aim 1080p 144Hz, so at least youve got the framerate. If you're willing to wait a month or so so the new GPU's are out, add to the budget and look at 1440? Then its all speculation now but no one can put an actual build together, it'd be more a rough sketch.

The 3600 is out of stock as is the 3600X (3600X looks like its only a couple of quid less than the XT, a 3600 is about £80 less)
Also includes a 1080P 144Hz monitor, but it isnt IPS (You are going to find that on your budget)

You could split the drive into a M.2 256Gb for the operating system, but seen as its for gaming and on a budget, you'll get the most use out of a 2TB SSD without costing more to boost system speed.

Honestly I think the best solution is to wait a few months so the 3000's are out and try to up the budget. If you can get nearer £1500 you'd be able to put a 1440p 144Hz build together fairly respectably, that would also be more upgradable. You'd also expect the build to have a longer lifespan too just a few GPU upgrades over the years and looking around 8 to 10 before completely rebuilding.

What are the 3000's? I don't know much about this stuff, just what I've managed to google. My budget is really based on what I can pay per month, which would be up to between 40-50.

The next series of GPU is due out on shelves middle of the month starting with the 3080, its a staggered release though with the 3090 a week later, and the 3070 sometime in october.

So the 2000 series (2060, 2070, 2080's ones) will all get a bit cheaper, and the price point on the 3000's set to be very similar to what the current ones were when they released. The 3000's are also set to be a big leap in performance.

If going by finance, what were you looking to pay as a deposit? Do you have a lump sum to pay against it? This would drop the monthly payment quite a bit, and save you interest if you go full term/dont pay off in 12 months.

I thnk £1500 works out about £50 a month with minimum deposit.
That does open up some more options. Also, if you have a larger deposit sum that will reduce monthly cost, and if scrapping the old PC you may well be able to save yourself a Win 10 licence (What is the current pc you have?)

Are there storage drives that you could also transfer over?

My current PC is an OMEN by HP Desktop PC 880-p1xx. I'm not sure if anything in that would be transferrable to a new one. I can pay a few hundred as a deposit if I wait a few weeks, which sounds like it'll be a good option if I want to wait for the 3000s to come out

Sorry, when i asked what the current one was I meant operating system. If its got Win 10 on it (or even Win 7 or 8.1) you can move it across to the new one once its linked to your microsoft account. You would upgrade 7/8.1 to 10 (free through microsoft) then link it/move it across.

What drives are in there? HP have (or had) a habit of having their own connectors so you had to buy things like PSU's off them at 3 times the price in the past... I would imagine the drives are SATA though? If a decent sized volume, you could transfer across and use that as the main storage and just look at a 500GB M.2 for the OS and main games for example.

Sorry, it's Win 10. I'm not sure what drive it has, I think it's 1TB, but don't know if it's SATA. Where would I be able to find that?
