Hi

It would be beneficial if, in the Technical Support forums, a user can mark their problem as resolved, and for this to be reflected in the list of threads (e.g. by a green tick icon):

This would help those members who are inclined to assist to know which issues are still unresolved.

More importantly, it would assist members with an issue, who are searching the forums for a resolution, to know which threads are more likely to have a solution.

Not a bad idea, with the current setup it would require the OP/a moderator manually changing the title of the thread and adding RESOLVED as a prefix.

I’m unsure if the model would work as that particular system would have to make sure that all enquiries were in that technical support thread. And a lot of threads posted don’t actually end up in the correct section.

I certainly appreciate the idea and it has merit, but I do have some reservations...

1. Almost every PCS build is different and what solves a problem for one build might well not be applicable to another. I well know the frustration of searching through 'solved' posts only to find the solution isn't applicable.

2. To make this facility useful we'd need to mark the 'solution post' in some way and move it to the top of the thread (just under the OP). Without these features users could end up having to read every post in a long thread in order to find the solution. I don't know whether the forum software can do that.

3. There is a big difference between a solution and a workaround - we'd thus need a workaround marker as well, both for the thread and the workaround post.

4. Asking the poster to decide whether the problem is solved is risky. Often the user considers a problem solved if it doesn't bother them anymore - even if the problem is still there. Asking the mods to mark problems solved brings little additional benefit than the mods adding [SOLVED] to the thread title - it's certainly no less work.

5. We mods often make threads sticky that contain useful information, yet we still get frequent new threads asking for help on those same issues. I rather suspect that even if we were able to mark threads as solved we'd still be getting new posts on the same subject.

If the forum application supports tagging, that would be more versatile, as you can add a number of tags to each ticket type.

A forum post could have both resolved tag but also say a tag for Solidworks / CAD or Rendering, or 4K with High End gaming tag.

if not Mods will need to accept a bit more workload, also as everyone is aware builds are VERY subjective.
