i7 3610QM(2.3Ghz) or i7 3740QM(2.7GHz)
the £80 upgrade?
I have a 320GB HDD 7200rpm for 2nd hardisk and an external 1TB
Taking to uni as a desktop replacement and moving around with it during term breaks - Christmas etc.
My budget was £1200. Now I'm just trying to stay under £1,300. Thanks for reading :)

What use will it have other than writing essays and gaming? I doubt you'd see much difference with the 3740 as I don't believe that the 3610 is a bottleneck for the 7970M. If you are going to be doing video/image/animation work or other highly CPU intensive activities then it's probably worth the £80. Just ordered one myself with the 3740 processor.

No I don't think i'll be doing anything CPU intensive. I'm just studying computer science.
I'll need this laptop for 4+ years and don't want it to fall off.
I played Civ5 on my 3 year old laptop with Dual Core 2.0Ghz and it took 2-5 seconds just to switch units when hit around 200 turns. Don't want this happening too soon.
Thanks for the reply :)

Studied computer science myself but that was quite a long time ago now, not sure how the course work has changed but doubt you'll need a super powerful processor for compiling a few programs here and there. Do they recommend any particular minumum hardware specifications for the course?
