Gaming Machine What Would You Use?

Hello All,

I lasted posted here when I could not decide on my work computer. I didn't know if I wanted to wait for the new Mac Pro or buy/build a comparable PC.

I decided to wait...

Now I need a new gaming machine, I've always played a video game here or there but I've never been a serious "game"r. However due to illness I began playing a game with some friends of mine and it's got me hooked. I started to play more and more games and the age of my computer is beginning to show.

My current PC can play on ultra settings but it's the first time it's had any problems with a new game and I've had to lower them, I guess it's getting old.

Rather than upgrade I'd rather give it away to someone in my family and have PC Specialist build a new computer.

I'm aware I'm asking a lot but would you mind putting something together for me?

My income is good enough that I don't think price will be an issue if you could put together a high end machine I'd really appreciate it.

The only requirements I have are the following:

1: It's good enough to play new games on max setting. I'm playing a lot of RTS & City/Empire building games at the moment. I'm not sure how demanding they are but there's a lot going on most of the time.

2: I'm able to use three monitors I currently use multiple displays and I'm not sure I could go back to having just one.

3: As I'm spending a lot of time on my "non-work" machine I've noticed just how warm it gets so having a good cooling system would be nice.

Anything else is entirely up to you Intel/AMD/Nvidia it's your choice and as I said before money should not be a problem.

However I am considering using only SSDs as all my work will be on another computer. I will likely buy the 960GB SSD for use as my primary hard disk.

Oh and the last time I was here I remember liking the "COOLERMASTER COSMOS 2 ULTRA TOWER". However if you think there is a superior case feel free to use yours over that one.

Thank you so much for your time. :winkiss:

Edit:

Should I consider getting an overclocked machine from PCS or just stick to the gaming machines section?

It will help if you put a maximum budget, is it just for gaming? Cosmos 2 is a great case but it is huge.

Sorry I didn't want to limit anyone in there suggestions £3-5000? Would be no bother at all anything above I'd need to ask permission first ha! This computer is solely for gaming yes and I'm aware of the size of the Cosmos II I like them big but thanks for the heads up.

£5000 is a lot for a gaming rig, to play in 3 monitors at high settings you are looking at 2 x gtx 780s with a full spec at around £2000. Spending more won't bring a significant improvement in performance. I would suggest spending a fraction of your budget and just upgrade in 2/3 years.

Cool thanks! The machine I built was £3800 but I don't know if I over did it on some things I'm really not technical at all. That's why I haven't posted a spec I don't want to make a fool of myself. :)

Sorry to add another question but should I consider getting an overclocked machine from PCS? Would it be suitable for what I need?

Thanks again All. :D

Some games benefit from an overclocked CPU but in most cases the difference is not significant or noticeable.

I would go with an i7-4700, a gtx 780 and 8gb RAM. The motherboard seems overkill, it is more suitable for extreme overclockers. From experience I have not noticed a significant difference in loading games from an SSD compare to my caviar black. If I were you I get a SLI set up if you are gaming in 3 monitors. A single gtx 780 outperforms the HD 7970.

Games won't get anywhere near even thinking about using 32GB of RAM. I think 16GB is overkill.
Like Keynes says get 8GB, You can always add more later (although I don't think you'll need to).

That's good to know thank you Keynes, graphics cards always confuse me. Bearing in mind I would prefer to spend money now and have it installed for me than do it myself. Would I benefit from having more than one GPU if I was to opt for the GTX 780? If so should I go for two or three?

I'll also have a look at that board you mentioned. As for the RAM I will go for 16GB if you think 32GB is overkill.

Thank you both very much for your time.

If you are gaming in 3 screens yes, SLI will allow you play at high settings in surround.
