Gaming PC - Advice Please

Hi

Hope you can point me in the right direction

I was planning on upgrading my PC about 4 months ago and you had advised new AMD CPUs were coming out so I waited and have came up with this spec, can you please have a look and advise me on what to change etc,

* Budget is around £2k
* Play mostly games like - Witcher 3, GTA V, Final Fantasy XV, Guild Wars 2, PUBG and looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 etc
* I have a Acer Predator XB271HUA 27" 1440p Monitor
* My current pc from PCS which I got in 2010 is -

I was thinking about the 3800x but seen a few videos that say there isn't much improvement over the 3700x?
Will this run the current games on ultra settings at 1440p and will it stand up to future games like Cyperpunk 2077 etc?
I was going to use my 1TB hard drive from my old computer in the new one, is that ok?
Is the case good for airflow? I would like it to be as quiet as possible.?
is the RTX 2070 SUPER good for my build and monitor? was thinking about the RTX 2080 SUPER as want it to last me a long time.

I checked the overclocked version of the above spec and its only £11 more, would that be worthwhile?

I would like this PC to last me a long time with minimal upgrades so any advice would be great.

IMHO, it's pretty well balanced.

No need for the 3800x for gaming, it's a pretty nothing chip, doesn't really fit anywhere between the 3700x and the 3900x.

You could save by reducing the PSU to a 550W happily, but I'm guessing you've gone for the 850 purely for the better RMx series, which would be my personal choice also.

The 2070 Super will do that screen good justice, perfect card for 1440p high refresh. From what I've read, the 2080 Super is not that much of a well positioned card over the 2070 Super. Personally I'd say stick with the 2070 Super as by the time you need more power, there will be better cards out to upgrade to which would overall give you better enjoyment over making do with a fraction more performance on the 2080 Super.

Yes, you can put your old 1TB HDD into this build without a problem, PCS warranty cover the customer putting in extra parts or upgrading parts so long as you don't do any damage during he work.

My only niggle would be the case, personally I'd go for something nearer the £100 mark. It's a pretty beefy spec and the case is really important for overall cooling potential of the components.

If you want a good quiet case with good airflow:

I had looked at that case but I thought it looked like it would let dust in too easily, the side panels are not flush with the metal casing and I seen a few videos where the cooler couldn't fit to the top as there wasn't much room for it between the top of the case and the motherboard so I'm not sure what would be best.

Fits the H100i fine, no issues at all.

The side panels gaps are by design and part of the overall air flow.

That's correct. The R7 3800x isn't even close to being worth thinking about whether it's even worth it.

If it was a free upgrade over a 3700x it would barely be worth it.

No. Overclocking can actually reduce performance on Ryzen depending how it's done. And there's very little OCing headroom anyway. Just let the CPU boost itself.

Thanks, i'm still not 100% on the case. its between the COOLERMASTER MASTERBOX MB530P RGB GAMING CASE and CORSAIR CRYSTAL SERIES 570X RGB GAMING CASE.... is there any advantages between them?

is the new 1TB CORSAIR MP600 GEN 4 worth getting or would I not see any benefit from it for gaming over what I have picked?

They are BLAZING fast drives and actually quite a lot cheaper than I would have assumed being so new, around the £250 mark.

It's not really something that is needed, but if it were me, I'd definitely get it, just because - WOW, what a drive!

Regarding the case, if it were me, I'd go for the Corsair 570x as it's a beautiful design and I think the cooling potential is a bit better than the masterbox. Personally I think it's just a higher quality case in most areas. BUT, cases are very subjective, if you google the model and add "review" at the end, it should bring up some good reviews from reputable sites like gamers nexus, pcmag and to some extent even user reviews on Amazon. Really it comes down to what you like, you're going to be the one living with it so make sure it's up to your tastes as well as a good performer.

Remember, you can also select to send in your own case, so if you've seen something elsewhere that you really really like and it's not stocked by PCS, you can buy it yourself and select "Have my own case" in the configurator, then you can just ship the case to PCS for them to build into.

My all time favorite case manufacturer for both aesthetics and cooling performance will always be Lian Li, they're just about top of the range in most regards.

Oh and if anyone knows of anywhere that sells good pc desks let me know if that's allowed on here.

What's your budget on the PC desk? I tend to go for something from Ikea, just because they're convenient and cheap. My current one is the Malm for just over £100 and have to say I've been really impressed with it

It's a little shallower than some desks so I got a desk mount for my 2 screens so it leaves the whole desk surface clear for my headphones and keyboard and speakers. Really nice setup. Simple but effective.... and cheap!

The Cooler Master's fans' RGB can be controlled by software. The Corsair's are controlled by a separate controller (though you can get a hub to software control them). But I haven't seen any reviews of it for thermal performance. While the Corsair case is very good for managing temps and the fans are pretty high quality and respected. The CM's could be too, I'm just not familiar enough to say that they are,

The Cooler Master also markets itself as having "aggressive intakes" which I take as being a reference to the fact it has a sheer plastic front and other cases that do this have poor airflow. So either CM thought of that and addressed it, or their marketing team just wants you to think they did...

Not really. But then the 970 Evo isn't 'worth it' for gaming over the SX6000. It's twice the price, load times will be pretty similar, and your framerate should be the same.

The price difference between the 970 Evo and the MP600 is less than £30. So if getting a 970 Evo with the high price premium it commands, you could just get the MP600.
