My budget is roughly around £1500-£1600 at the most.

If you can look at the spec below which I made and give me any ideas on what to change or keep or if there's something else that is completely better, please let me know! This is what I built so far:

This is definitely possible, but your build could definitely do with some finessing. What monitor are you using? And can you supply the configuration link?

Hi there, there's quite a lot that could be changed on this build but we can work through it! Before we give advice we'll need a little more info 1) What monitor do you have? (either make and model or resolution and refresh rate) 2) would you be able to provide is with the FULL build and configurable link? How to do this can be found here

Monitor is mentioned at the end of the OP’s post, looks like they’ve edited to add it in and include the configurable link 👍

My bad, I didn't spot that at the end and thanks for the link! When do you plan to upgrade your monitor and what will you be upgrading to? I'd highly suggest a new monitor upgrade ASAP, especially with a nice new PC. If you wanted to we could section off some of the PC budget for a new monitor, if not what was your planned budget for this monitor?

Your big problem now is that monitor! It's not really a gaming monitor as it's only 1080p 75Hz: gaming these days is looking at 120Hz minimum. Basically any sensible build will be way overkill for that monitor. And I personally would recommend going for a 1440p monitor when you upgrade, so there's no point trying to cram a monitor into the budget as well. (A base-level 1440p tower+monitor setup is around £2000, for your reference.)

So I'm going to recommend a build that will totally knock the socks off that monitor (as in, go way, way over what it is actually capable of displaying) and be easily upgradable to 1440p when you get there: it will only require replacing the graphics card and monitor, a pretty easy task.

I'm suggesting the six-core 5600X; you could go for the 5800X, but it's quite a big difference in price as you'd also want to beef up the cooling. I edit videos on the 5600X and it's completely fine. If you do get to that point, it will probably be a good plan to add an extra 16GB of memory as well.

No worries! I mean I'd like to upgrade my monitor whilst getting a new PC I guess, so yes sectioning off some of the PC budget for a new monitor could work, sounds good to me.

Thanks buddy! Yeah, the monitor is a big problem indeed. But yeah what you said makes sense, and the upgrading replacing graphics card and monitor would be an easy task yes. Looks good!

I've been pipped to the post! This looks like a lovely build from @sck451 and makes a very good point about monitor and GPU upgrade. Although as it's only a 75hz monitor is there much point in going for the 2060 over 1660S as I'm sure the 1660S would max out that monitor anyway?

It has some ray-tracing capability (admittedly not much) and, most importantly, it would be significantly better for video editing**. For £20 it's a no-brainer to my mind, even though the difference won't be discernible. I'd also expect it to have a bit more resale value down the line.

** though I admit I do video editing on a 5600X-1660S combination and have no cause for complaint

😂 That little text. And totally fair, especially for only £20 more!

I guess it's a case of "the 1660S is fine, but for £20 I'd bite your hand off for the 2060"!
alright so just to confirm, that spec would be good for my current bad monitor, but is a good spec for the games i play such as GTA V RP (FiveM), call of duty, etc etc, and then sometime soon ASAP I will upgrade monitor and then also replace graphics card?

If you're upgrading soon, it's worth buying a 1440p graphics card. The ideal one would be the 3060 Ti, but that is out of stock, has been for ages and looks like it will be for a while. If the price is accurate (and my guess is that it will go up when it's back in stock), it would take my build above to £1700. This would definitely be a good bet if you're going to be upgrading to 1440p soon and you can afford it. (FWIW, good 1440p monitors start at £260-280, depending on sales on any given day.)

understood, thanks man. will take this into consideration and will look, if I didn't want to wait long for that one to come back into stock, any other good options you'd suggest? or just stick to this and upgrade the monitor and graphics card in future when it's back in stock maybe? I mean i'm sure when it's back in stock i'd have the extra money saved up

The 3070 would be ideal, but adds £200 to that price. The AMD 6700XT is the other option, but isn't so great at video editing. If that's going to be a major part of your work in the near future, I'd go for one of the NVidia cards, but if you're maining concerned with gaming right now and can afford that smidgen over £2000 for tower and monitor, it would be a brilliant setup.

Otherwise I'd stick with what I proposed above. As @Martinr36 says, any of these graphics cards will be mega overkill for you: the ideal card would actually be the 1650 Super, but PCS don't have them and the second hand prices are 😲

I know this feels like one caveat and problem after another: such is the world of graphics cards in 2021.
