GPU problems

Hi all, I bought a pc a while ago now was under the impression gpu updates install via windows update however I wanted to manually update my GPU as I was seeing some fps issues drastically on Minecraft which is completely weird considering used to run no problems at all on a normal laptop so was wondering what the issues are with the GPU and in order to take one test of the list I wanted to manually update however when I download the gtx 1070 drivers every time no matter which I download it always says this is not compatible for this version? I bought the pc from pcspecialist so I am very confused unfortunately it is out of warranty and I don't fancy buying new pc just to be able to play Minecraft.

A few things to check:
Are you getting the drivers from the NVidia website or using GeForce Experience to update them? Those are the only places you should be getting NVidia drivers from
Are you are using some other driver tool? If so get rid of it (they tend to cause problems) and remove any NVidia drivers it has installed for you.
Are you using a genuine Windows license (ie. did you either buy it with Windows or have a genuine Windows key)?

To answer all those questions I get all my drivers from nvidia website or at least I tried too but I can't as everytime i download i get that error. I do not use any driver tool except the one built in to windows to do a quick update if windows can find one. The windows license is from PCSpecialist when I bought the pc from them

One possibility, though this might not be it, is that you got the GPU drivers via Windows update at one point, and the new ones manually downloaded aren't installing properly. Going from DCH to standard drivers doesn't always play nice.

I'd run DDU to remove the drivers, try again with the drivers downloaded from Nvidia.
(probably: https://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers/results/150351 )

If that fails, DDU again and try some significantly older drivers.

Wha version of Windows 10 are you on? 1809?

quick question as my brain is mush at night, where do I find out my windows version on windows 10 as I am rubbish with new layouts lol never really spent time finding my version haha. Also highly highly appreciate what you guys do on the forums to help us idiots even though I work with computers just not really ever ran into fps problems in my time nor is it what I usually deal with haha.

If you look here it tells you exactly how to find it (I had to go Google it cos I couldn't remember how to find easily find it :)).

It should look a bit like:

And it's the Version number, so in my case it's 1903

This may be what the article says but if you press the start menu, type winver and hit enter, it tells you

Thank you so much kind sir, infact both mods helped a lot in deducing the problem for me and this post was the one I followed and used ddu and it has then installed perfectly thanks again hopefully once I reinstall minecraft and fps problem will be fixed fingers crossed.

As much as this definitely helped it hasn't fixed the on going fps issues with my games so on-going tests and stuff will be getting ran tonight. Out of curosity I have never heard of it happening but can the monitor you use affect fps droping? as I am convinced only 150 fps with a intel core i7 9700k and gtx 1070 graphics card that surely there should be more fps than that in games on moderate settings especially considering I asked all those questions when buying the PC so feel a bit annoyed as I been putting up with constantly dropping fps in certain games and crashing and never bothered to contact pc specialist directly as I figured they would just say well you bought a shit pc lol even though they quoted and gave me the spec for the pc that I would need so would be very disappointed in them if the case was that they quoted me the wrong pc for what I do.

Hi all, I always just believed that I was just not doing it right but no matter how or where I install games they all have fps issues lag and many other problems whereas when I use to play games on laptops with intel integrated graphics it worked great I feel as if when I bought it I had to get upgraded parts due to parts not being instock so whatever they gave me instead has somehow affected the performance than what I was supposedly told I would get when I asked for a quote and a price for the pc and I feel as if I have put up with this for 1 and half years nearly 2 maybe even longer so I know I am out of warranty but feel as if idk I just didn't / couldn't complain at the time but I am very disappointed considering the recommendation high recommendation might I add for pcspecialist when tbh I should really have just built my own and that way would have saved a lot more money which I couldn't have spent on making sure the PC is working right? can anyone explain why with a intel core i7 9700k cpu and 1070 gtx graphics card am I getting fps and lag on minecraft of all games especially considering when I asked for the quote I stated quite clearly that I would be playing a lot of minecraft and modded minecraft so why on earth did they send and sell me a pc that has so much fps issues.

PCS will just sell the hardware essentially, configuring windows for the users specific requirements is up to the user.

You'll need to be more specific with what your issues are for us to help?

Well ever since I had it Minecraft GPU fps is 20 max no matter how I config it and it will always lag and have lag spikes. When I used to play GTA 5 and try to config the graphic settings everytime without fail said I didn't have enough GPU ram which was a lie as I should have plenty for all of the settings yet it said I didn't and usually just crashed. I am very confused and no matter what config or settings or tweaks I do I can not fix I put up with this since I got it because I didn't first off know if I would able to return for full refund which now I can't as I had too long well too long haha but its just annoying when you pay 1.5k for a PC and yet it can't run Minecraft or Gta 5 without some kind of warnings or errors or crashes idk how to explain it further tbh and was just feeling bit hacked off.

Can you post your full specs from the order page?

What monitor are you pairing it with, what make and model number?

...and I feel as if I have put up with this for 1 and half years nearly 2 maybe even longer..

If you've had it for almost two years and you're now on Windows 10 version 1809 then Windows has done at least one, and possibly more, upgrades-in-place to newer versions. Allowing Windows Update to do an upgrade-in-place to a newer version is known to cause all sorts of issues for some users. IMO the first thing you should do is clean install (by booting installation media) the latest version of Windows (1903) and allow Windows Update to install all drivers. That will give you the cleanest, most stable, and most reliable operating system platform possible, so if you're still getting these issues afterwards they will most likely be hardware related.

As above, it's probably clean Windows install time.

I didn't ask before because you said something about 150 fps in games and I thought that meant you were getting 150fps in games and the issue was that the framerate was just very inconsistent and stuttery. But then you say:

Do you have the monitor plugged into the graphics card, or the motherboard?

As for your suggestion of updating windows to 1903 I have heard nothing but bad feedback from bugs and problems with that version so haven't felt the urge to update I have however done multiple fresh installs and reformatting of all my drives and still have same problems with fps and fps lag throughout different games certain games I can get 200 fps on and it will still stutter and lag and crash however put up with but the main game I play which is Minecraft I struggle to stay at a constant 20 fps. Which is what annoys me the most and I am just really confused now as I was under the impression these machines were sent out basically ready and able to play games straight off the bat however ever since I got it that has not been the case constant config changes and messing and tinkering with settings has always been needed to try and figure out what the hell is wrong yet to no avail have I figured out how to fix this.

The Monitor is plugged into graphics card as it should be.

Sorry for being a pain to you moderators but I am just at my witts end put up with this since I got it thinking that I basically had no other choice really but on verge now of selling for idk what but then building my own from scratch and doing it that way and then in that instance if it doesn't play games right or isn't good enough quality then I shall have to blame myself lol.

Do you mean i7 7700k? The 9700k doesn't even work in Z170 motherboards, and was only released late last year.
