Graphics card temperature slowly increasing while 'idle'

Hi everyone,

so since like few days I've noticed my GPUs temp. (both of them) slowly going up when I don't even do anything...
I have tried to clean the PC, took them both out and cleaned all the fans and everything else, but it's still the case.. the idle temperature used to be around 21-23 degrees C and the cards are getting to 41-42.

I haven't got a clue what to do, when I try to cool them by manually adjusting the fan speed, they go down to around 23, but then slowly back up again ... on Auto mode the Thunder Master (Palit software), show the fan speed only at 30%, but the fan temp keep going up...

I'm puzzled... -,-

thanks for any help in advance ;)

BTW I'm running windows 8.1 & 364.72 Nvidia drivers

It could possibly be to do with the new drivers. Try rolling back the drivers and see if it goes back to 'normal' Both my GPU's idle at around 40C so not a major issue.

When you say 'idle' are they actually idle? If you use GPU-Z and look at the graphs, are they in fact showing some load? Even if the load is minimal, are the cards operating at fairly high core clocks?

Things like game clients (steam. battle.net, whatever), or even browsers with hardware acceleration could be causing it.

Do you have Shadowplay enabled with desktop capture? (to capture windowed mode games for example)

Hi everyone, thanks for all the responses.

It would appear to have been the new nvidia drivers ?! I have rolled back to the previous version and temperature is back to normal (low 20s).
Not sure what would they have done to the drivers for it to bring the temperature up? :/

btw. the load on cards was zero... ;]
