Couple of things:

I'd drop to the non-k version of the chip (K denotes unlockable for overclocking). If you are looking to overclock you need to up your cooler to at least the noctua if not then watercooling.

You'll need a much better case to improve airflow and stop it from overheating, something in the £40 plus bracket.

Steer clear of the Kingston V300's as they have pretty serious r/w performance issues and are generally pretty rubbish, any other model will be better.

Otherwise looks good.

Thanks for that. Will certainly look again at the ssd. I do not know much about over clocking as I have always steered clear of it in the past. Are you saying I can stick with the k version, as long as I get a better case and cooler (to allow for future over clocking), or do I need the better case regardless?

Edit: just looked up the Kingston and does appear that the newer models have speed issues that were not present on the earlier drives and not picked up in the early reviews. They have changed the chips. Was worth joining the forum just to find that out so thank you.

You'll need the better case for either configuration on a build of that spec, it's the graphics and chip that will basically determine the heat output. The case you've selected is really designed for an i3 without graphics setup type of thing (ie much less power).

Ok, will look at that.
In relation to the storage, I am now looking at ssd options and going for a faster set up. Trying to get some idea on whether pcie or m.2 is best but not rally found a concrete answer yet. At the moment I am leaning towards the Samsung 951.

I have the 951 and it's fast. A noticeable difference from the ssd in my old PC

I have read quite a few good reviews on the 951 so it looks favourite at the moment.

So the below spec is where I am at now. I need to order tomorrow really as it is replacing my main work PC which went bang this morning. Would appreciate any additional comments in case I have overlooked anything else.

Hi what programs will you be using for the video editing?

Whilst the Quadro cards are the professional grade video editing cards in the Nvidia range you might be better off with a high end GeForce card like the GTX980ti.

I've used both, mainly for GPGPU processing work and the new Maxwell chipset cards (750, 750ti and 900 series) are a revelation when it comes to co-processing work. It all depends on the programs you will be using and whether they use double precision floating point operations.

Hi Frank

I did not see the 980Ti in the options list. There is a Titan x option, but this is more expensive. I will not be doing any gaming hence my leaning towards the quadro. I use adobe premier, more often multitasking with photoshop, indesign, soundbooth as well as running outlook, powerpoint, word, chrome etc. I wanted to easily edit and render lengthy videos and still get on with some other work. I am also using multiple 4k displays. Hope this expalins as anything more technical is over my head.

I have placed the order now, but could probably make some changes by end of today if I have made a glaring error

Hi,

It might be with that particular build listing they offer only the Quadro and Firepro cards. I would imagine you could ask for a GeForce card instead if you wanted to have that.

The 980ti is a bit cheaper than the Quadro K4200 and has three Display Port connections which support 4k at 60Hz. In terms of display it would work for you. In terms of the software you will be using some support CUDA rendering but you won't get more power out of the Quadro, in fact in Permiere the 980ti would be faster.

The Quadro is machined to a different standard and percentage-wise there will be a smaller number of failures and Nvidia will jump through hoops for customers buying Tesla and Quadro cards. Saying that, I've just replaced 60 GTX660ti cards with 60 GTX970 cards in a pretty high end GPU cluster and in 30 months I only had 3 cards fail. The cards were running at 100% capacity, 24 hours a day for about 360 out of 365 days per year. That is pushing the cards well beyond what they were built for and 3 out of 60 failures is nothing short of remarkable considering how hard I've worked them. These 660tis are still working and usable. In short the build quality of the consumer grade GeForce cards doesn't concern me.

Maybe ask PCSpecialist about the option and do a bit of Googling. You could even opt for a GTX970 and run 3 displays at 4k on that card.

Hi Frank

Thank you very much for your help. That is certainly impressive set up!

I got back this afternoon intending to follow your advice and call them to discuss an alternative card and see what they had, only to find an email from them saying the system was built and was now in testing (three hours after the order was placed which is impressive). I probably won't want to mess them about now as I do need the machine asap and any changes I make are bound to set the delivery back. I am hoping that although I may have paid a bit more for a card with features I don't need, that it is still good for my needs and will prove reliable .

Thanks again everyone here for your input.
