Have you tried turning it on and off again? haha just kidding.

Is it a steam game? If so, you can check the integrity of the game cache. I recently had a problem with Left 4 Dead two crashing and freezing, it solved the problem. Just right click on the game in the library, then click "properties", then click "local files", then click "verify integrity of game cache"

Hope this helps mate.

Try running in compat mode?

Are you getting a message like "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available", could just be running into annoying issues Vista/7 has, UAC, Tablet, Admin, etc,

No it's not a steam game Tom it's from Green Man Gaming & far as i can tell
you need to use their own app,Capsule.
Thought you had something there SrgColman with compatibility mode but no joy.
Think I'll just write off the £2 49p. :)

Ugh this game was a lot of problems for a whole load of people. Things like the Visual C ++ 2005 version causing issues, and even things like other sound providers etc causing problems; the 2k forums are full of people with problems. Im sure you will get it to work eventually; it is a great game, and worth pursuing to get going!

Have you used the Rapture 3d sound system (Blue Ripple) for any games installed on your pc? Such as Dirt 2; which uses it. If I remember, a couple of people had problems from that; and updating to the latest version fixed their issues with Bioshock. If you have it, remove via control panel and reinstall the latest version from the Blue Ripple website. I dont believe Bioshock uses it but could be wrong; would be appropriate since the world is called Rapture!

Make sure that the latest version of Bioshock is patched onto the Greenman gaming version. It is 1.1. I dont believe you can manually patch it with the version available online, but I expect it is fully patched in any case.

Aside from that, try running in compatibility mode for xp; and I believe you can enter -nosplash on the target line of the shortcut and -nosound to see if the intro/sound for any reason is causing a problem. Not sure if you could still find the Bioshock demo anywhere to download and try and see if that works, may narrow down whether it is something to do with the version Greenman gaming is selling. The 2k forums are a good place to have a look at these issues although a lot of people dont ever bother stating why their suddenly worked/didnt. Good luck mate! :) Greenman gaming will give you credit for something else if desperate, but I would be determined to get this to work like im sure you are.

This game was giving me the same problems, first there was no audio then every time I changed the resolution it crashed. I'm able to play it now in compatibility mode with Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and with DX 9. Create a shortcut for the game somewhere, right click on it and go into properties, click on the shortcut tab then in the target box delete what's in there and paste this in: "C:\Program Files\2K Games\Bioshock\Builds\Release\Bioshock.exe" -dx9 Then if you click on the Compatibility tab you can tick the Run this program in compatibility mode for: box and choose XP service pack 3 from the drop-down list.

Do you mean paste in "C:\Program Files\2K Games\Bioshock\Builds\Release\Bioshock.exe"
without the quotes then add -dx9 ?

Paste with the quotes and with -dx9 on the end so just copy and paste what I type after the colon: "C:\Program Files\2K Games\Bioshock\Builds\Release\Bioshock.exe" -dx9
