Help Upgrading my PC

Hello,

I have had my pc for nearly 5 years now and looking to upgrade it, I do not have a massive budget for it and would ideally like to keep as much of my current build as is feesible.

I do not need anything fancy and not looking to run games at 4k or anything like that. Just want good steady fps and nice graphics. I play Rocket League, r6 siege, planet coaster, red dead etc

Below is what my current build from PCS is:

FRACTAL FOCUS G BLACK GAMING CASE (Window)

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Six Core CPU (3.6GHz-4.25GHz/19MB CACHE/AM4)

ASUS® TUF X570-PLUS GAMING (USB 3.2 Gen 2, PCIe 4.0, CrossFireX) - ARGB Ready

16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2400MHz (1 x 16GB) (now 2x16gb)

4GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1650 SUPER – HDMI

512GB ADATA SU800 M.2 2280 (560 MB/R, 520 MB/W)

3TB SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 64MB CACHE

CORSAIR 650W TXm SERIES™ SEMI-MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET

1 x 1 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)

PCS FrostFlow 100 V2 Series High Performance CPU Cooler (AMD)

ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND

2x 120mm Black Case Fan (configured to extract from rear/roof)

ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)

WIRELESS 802.11N 300Mbps/2.4GHz PCI-E CARD

MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS

Windows 10 Home 64 Bit

3 x PCS 1.5M Zip Cable Tidy - Professional Cable Management

Monitor is MSI 165Hz

Thanks in advance for any advice, in know very little about gaming pc's bar what things are and what they do haha

I presume that's a 1080p monitor?

You're pretty limited in upgrades because that's a fairly old PC: there's no point in chucking significant money into it. You can upgrade it reasonably, however. I'd suggest looking at the graphics card first and then the CPU if the new graphics card is restricted by the 2600X. A 650W supply is OK for a mid-tier card. I'd suggest looking for something like a 3060 Ti, which can be had second-hand for £200-250. That would transform your gaming experience. If you wanted to buy a brand new card, you're more limited. A Radeon 7600 is around £250 from PCS and is a bit worse than the 3060 Ti.

For the CPU, your best bet would be a 5600, a 5600X, a 5700X or, if your budget can reach it, a 5700X3D. Again I'd personally look second-hand, but PCS will sell them to you too if you prefer. Note a couple of other things: if your motherboard BIOS isn't updated, you'll need to do that, and you should be careful it's those exact models of CPU rather than something very close (e.g. a 5700 without the X is trash, and a 5600G likewise).

My last question would be storage. Are you keeping games on an SSD or on the hard drive? If it's on the hard drive, I'd 100% upgrade to an SSD for game storage. It'll be a way better experience.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

Yeah its a 1080p monitor.

Main games are on the SSD. I'll look into the suggestions for the GPU and CPU.

Could you suggest a new build from the ground up that would be a good but not crazy upgrade?

Sure. This is the region that would get you a brand new PC. Various changes could be made. You can also move that hard drive over from the old PC: I think it's probably the only useful component, though.
