hey guys, I really could do with some help with spec'ing out a pc, I've got into gaming and found loads of interesting vids on youtube from like bitwit, linus, greg salazar.

I have made a spec ill paste below can you tell me if its ok or make amendment's if you need to. keys things I want a rtx3080 ( do we know how long till they in stock?) I have a monitor I'm happy with but I'm going to try some VR stuff soon. I want 32gb ram, i prefer AMD but i don't mind intel, I want to stick to m.2 drives for storage ( these are best right). my budget is £2500, I'm not bothered about RBGbut if I have it that's cool, I also want to include a gold warranty.

day to day will be a lot of office/data stuff loads of chrome tabs and programs and applications running so id rather 32gb now while i can afford it

please have a look and advise or rebuild if you can thanks a lot guys and gals.

Ok what's the monitor you've got resolution & refresh rate or make & model

Your spec looks pretty good but I've tweeked the storage a little, I've reduced the M.2 to 512 GB samsung 980, this will be your C drive with the OS on, I've then given you a 1TB 970 to load your games on, and a 2TB HDD for all the files that don't need fast loading like photos, videos etc

Hi Amy,

Build looks pretty good. Just got a couple of questions to help us optimise it for you!

What monitor do you have? Make and model or resolution and refresh rate would be handy to know. We match the graphics card to the screen, to make full use of a 3080 you would really want a 1440p superwide or 4k 144hz display that would set you back £750+. Downgrading to a 3070 might be a wise option here, as it will still be able to handle VR capably, and if time is of the essence, will mean your PC spends less time in production as 3080s are in short supply worldwide at the moment.

@Martinr36 has made some solid storage changes above that I would also recommend.

wow, thanks for getting back to me guys, do you have a rough idea on how long it would take to get a 3070 over a 3080? I have a curved samsung monitor atm, not to sure on complete specs but its pretty good, would there be a screen to recommend for a 3070 or a 3080?

also, if the noctua isnt good enough what should I use instead?

So that is a 1080p superwide monitor, effectively it is two 24 inch 1080p screens packed into one monitor. We don't recommend 1080p for gaming anymore, especially at the moment with the lack of next-gen 1080p graphics cards, and with a 2500 budget 1440p is well within your grasp.
The best-case step up would be upgrading to the Samsung G9, which is 2 27 inch 1440p screens packed together into one monitor. It isn't cheap, but is unparalleled at its price point and will be able to utilise the power of the 3080 GPU.

thanks for your help, is the cooling ok in the pc? someone said the noctua might not be best? but thanks for the help up until now, ill look at buying the computer now and upgrading the screen in a month or two probably around Easter.

do you know the rough wait time for a 3080? or should i just go for the 3070?

The cooler is very good and extremely quiet, i’m not too sure about the noise of the case fans though (these may be loud and make the cooler being so quiet, pretty pointless).

Personally i am having a similar build, but i have a 3070 and i am getting a H115i RGB Platinum, but it is overkill for the 5800X, but the price difference between H100i and H115i was so small, i opted for the more overkill.

The coolermaster 240 is the AIO you’ll likely want, if you opt for an AIO, but it isn’t RGB and i believe it has a blue led, that you can’t turn off.

Ah that could be an issue with it being out of stock.

i already have a 3070 that i got from Curry’s, but there isn’t a dramatic stock issue with 3070’s anymore. If you really want one, you can buy them from online retailers if you actively pursue one... i.e. join a stockinformer discord. So i imagine PCS has stock

The 3060Ti will have you covered for your monitor but for the VR it would depend on which headset you were opting for. If you were looking at an entry level kit with a lower resolution, the 3060Ti has you more than covered, but if you were opting for something a little more high end the 3070 would definitely pair well. The 3080 should be reserved for extreme case use, it's a waste of money and time otherwise. Better to save now and spend later, when the technology moves on you will have a head start.

H100i RGB would be my recommendation for the cooler. The Coolermaster 240 is the minimum I would get, it's almost as effective at cooling it's just going to be a little noisier on full chat.

What would the budget be for the headset? Rift S I think is your starting point for a decent PC headset. The 3060Ti would have you covered for that though.

Bumping it up you're into the HP Reverb 2 or the Valve Index sort of level. The Vive Pro is a contender as well but I don't think it's a good option given the other 2. For clarity and picture quality the HP Reverb 2 is best, for peripheral vision the Index takes the crown. These units would both warrant the 3070.
