I7 8th Vs 7th K and non-K Generation

Hi,

I'm looking for a laptop with good real-time music processing (Ableton Live 9) and wondering if this build will be ok in terms of CPU temps. Thinking of going for the 8700 as it appears to be cooler than the 7700, 8600k and 8700k with good speeds too what do you reckon. Stick with the 8700?

They run at similar temperatures, the 7th Gen and 8th Gen (despite 8th gen having 2 more cores, which I think surprised a lot of people). There's hardly any argument for buying a 7th Gen CPU at this point.

The WD Blue SSD isn't any better than a Sata SSD like the 850 Evo. If you have the budget the 960 Evo is much, much faster.

And will the 8700k have similar temperatures to the 8700 when not overclocked, even though they have different TDP's?

I believe the non-K CPUs both run cooler than their -k counterparts, which isn't surprising as the -k CPUs have higher frequencies out of the box, completely regardless of overclocking.

However, the temperature difference is pretty modest, and the higher frequencies = higher performance.

Many people have also undervolted the CPUs in their Octanes, reducing temps and power consumption, without needing to compromise on performance.
