IP Camera - any suggestions?

I've just got a network camera that operates via IP.

The software came on a disc and I have installed the software. The first time I did this it opened the program.

Now when I've come back to it a day later I can't find the program anywhere to open it?

If I put the disc in again and click the installer it asks me if I want to uninstall (which means it's definitely installed).

Except I can't find it anywhere :/

In the 'Uninstall or change a program' list in Control Panel - only a shortcut to the installer package is there. I've tried searching but to no avail :/

I also can't find it in program files, and it doesn't appear in the start menu (usually new programs are highlighted in W7)

Any ideas?

Thanks :)

You cant find the folders at all in program files? Or you just cant find the launcher?

It is possibly they have installed it somewhere else by default. Best way I can come up with would be to hop onto another 'puter, run the installer again until you get to the point where it specifies the file path and then look back on the computer you already installed it on.

Oh yeah - that's the other thing - it doesn't specify a file path. HOWEVER I may have found the problem.

When you type in the IP to view the camera in your browser, it goes to a live page. Except I get faced with an error message "This browser can't open the 'Live' page'."

I was really confused - I'd installed the software.

So I turned to my colleagues PC and it loaded up straight away and asked to install software, which he did no problem.

Why would it work on his and not on mine? Then I realised that the camera and my PC were going through a network hub, and would therefore have the same IP address. I reckon that could cause problems - as it works everywhere else!

I assume the installation software that is on the disc is some form of plug-in to make it run in the browser...

If it's anywhere similar to the one I used to have then yes you are right, it's not actual software as such, just a browser plugin and you cannot access the camera from the same PC because the IP addresses will be the same.

What you need to do is to put the internal IP into your browser to access it, generally that would be along the lines of 192.168.0.X where X is the number assigned to the device, usually numbers are issued on a first come first served basis, so the routers ID will be 192.168.0.0, the first PC on the network would be 192.168.0.1, the next device installed onto the network would be 192.168.0.2 and so on (not always the case because sometimes devices force a specific number in their setup but most of the time it works this way).

If you have access to your routers config (go to 192.168.0.0 and enter username/password) there should be a section there that shows the allowed computers/devices and their assigned numbers).

Also make sure JAVA is up to date, these things usually use JAVA to run.

That's if it's similar to the one I used to have, I may be wrong.

EDIT: On some models of router/modem if it has wifi built in then when the wifi is enabled the root address will be 192.168.0.0 if wifi is disabled and you are connecting physically then it will likely be 192.168.0.100

Thanks! I've got it to work :) I won't be using it normally through this hub, it will be in another building entirely!
