Hi there,
I would recommend giving the articles compiled in the below thread a quick once over, particularly the AMD vs Intel thread. AMD are ahead of Intel in almost every metric at the moment, and especially in productivity.
Once you've done that please could you let us know your budget, and what monitor you'll be pairing this with, and we'll see what we can spec to suit your needs.

my current budget is maximum £2500 ($3487). My current monitor is a philips 276E8VJSB 4k monitor.

I'd be aiming for something like this mate, the 5900x is an absolute beast when it comes to production and using things like CAD while also being a fantastic gaming CPU. RAM has room to upgrade to 64GB in future aswell

GPU is selected to make use of your monitor and offer high frame rates in high en gaming

Fastest available M.2 for the OS (980 Pro) and a M.2 1TB drive for your other files.

Also included a large enough PSU to make sure the build will have plenty of power for upgrades down the line and it'll also help it run quieter and cooler

CPU cooler may be overkill but it'll really extend the life of the CPU and stop it thermal throttling. Really depends on how much you push the boundaries in the likes of CAD which I'm familiar with

Well AMD have Intel beat in pretty much every metric at the minute so pretty much no one will recommend them unless for really budget builds as the 10400f is a decent shout or the 10600K which is reasonable. On the top end of the scale AMD has blown them out of the water

Definitely AMD is something to consider, especially workstation wise, 12-16 cores with the single core performance of intel and much better multi core performance at much lower power usage. What is there not to like?
