The new 2025 recoil 16 has an AMD CPU option which many would consider superior at the moment so unless you have need for an 18" screen I would be looking at the 16".

Yeah, I get that. Only use the laptop screen when on-site editing, so I guess as that's only 10% of my work the 16" AMD option looks good.
Thanks...

We love you Ukraine

You can buy it at any time, laptop will still work without it but you’ll just be limited in performance as the GPU and possibly CPU will throttle so won’t hit max speeds

I would go for a P44 Pro as far more reliable than a Samsung or even a Crucial T705 if budget isn’t an issue which is PCIe gen 5 and significantly faster while also being far more reliable

Thanks for that. Will have as look at the Gen 5 option - future-proofing I guess? Will contact PCS re: Liquid cooling as it seems a must!

Just got this update via Reddit on the 18". Posted by TaeKz MOD•18h ago

" The Recoil 18" (Clevo X580) has a CPU limitation where DDR5 downclocks to 4000MHz in 4-channel mode. Even in 2-channel, the CPU still assumes 4 sticks are installed, keeping the lower speed. The Recoil 16" is 2-channel by default, so it doesn't have this issue.

Other brands have avoided this by not advertising RAM speeds, which will be standard for the new 2000 series HX CPUs. We're working closely with CLEVO on a fix to properly detect 2-channel mode and restore speeds up to 5600MHz, but there's no workaround yet. We'll share updates when we have more info!"

Another reason to go with the 16.
