Laptop for music production - CPU?

Hi, I'm also looking at a laptop with music production in mind. Do you think a U series processor is sufficient? I'd be running SuperCollider and at least one type of DAW. I was thinking I'd need an H series, but perhaps not. One factor was that I was considering getting into projecting visuals generated in SuperCollider to go along with the audio, so maybe that'd require a cpu with a bit more grunt. Any advice appreciated! Thanks, Mark

I've moved this to its own topic from here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?60441-laptop-for-music-production

Anyone replying, NB this topic too: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?60414-pre-purchase-check-cosmos-vii

I can't claim any experience with the software, but hopefully someone can give a more specific answer.

The two most common -H series CPUs will be the i5 8300H and i7 8750H. The i5 is a quad core with hyperthreading just like the ULVs, but its higher TDP will let it maintain higher frequencies for longer. Whereas the i7 is 6 cores and 12 threads, giving even more potential performance.

The Cosmos with a an i7 8750H is as little as £15-£55 more than the Ultranotes (depending on which Ultranote) with an i7. It's only ~300 grams heavier than the 15.6" ultranote, though ~700 grams more than the 14" one. If the size and weight aren't major factors though the Cosmos does stand to give a lot more horsepower per £, comparing i7s.
