Laptop stuck on boot screen preparing automatic repair

Hello, my laptop has all of a sudden been stuck on the boot up screen, while saying 'preparing automatic repair' this happened after a windows update. Please help as all of my university work is on there and I need to access it ASAP. Thank you

If it was me, I'd try a forced restart by holding the power button down.

If that doesn't unfreeze it, then I'd try to reinstall Windows and any apps I need urgently, then recover my important documents from my backup (cloud, HDD, USB stick, SD card, etc.).

Probably less than an hour all in if you have a way to get a Windows install media onto a USB stick.

However, if the SSD is faulty then all bets are off.
