Laptop Vortex 17.3" - defective SD Card reader ?

This laptop's SD card reader slot must be defective because most SD Cards do not fit in properly and you need to push. In addition while pushing them in, the "write protect" tab gets moved and the SD Card becomes read only!

To use it there are very few, randomly, SD Cards that fit in without much pushing and without the write protect tab getting moved.

I have examined the slot with a light and there is no debris or anything else in there, it really appears as if it is badly designed and produced.

Recently there is another great issue. I noticed that the read/write speeds on various SD Cards that I tried were very slow, 9-13 MB/sec, so I got one of those SD-USB card adaptors and on the USB slots the same SD cards perform at 100 MB/sec !!!

This SD card reader is defective it seems, but is it only me, or is it a common theme on these laptops?
