Looking to upgrade after 6yrs - what is good these days?

I haven't upgraded my PC in quite a while and I have finally given up hope on my old gaming laptop, so I am looking to get something new - I would be happy to spend up to around £4000 (but naturally cheaper is better). I am not sure if the 5090 is worth (if people disagree please shout) so came up with the below. How do people think things look? Is the processor good enough? How about the fans/cooling (not something I have ever had to consider before lol).

Gaming, monitors undecided but whatever is good and included in the budget - probably 4k (what refresh rates are good?)

Ignoring the specific GPU (as that will depend on whatever monitor resolution you decide to go with), I’d still say that the CPU, platform, RAM, cooler, PSU, case and storage could be improved.

Also we’d need to know if it’s just a gaming PC, or whether there’s any other significant uses, as that could dictate what CPU is best.

…and if SpyderTracks had already said all this before I finished typing my reply, then it’s not because I’ve got him on ignore ;)

It would mostly just be for gaming, the occasional bit of Microsoft office, streaming and random low intensity programming but nothing like video processing etc

Godlike
Pushing towards the top end of your budget, but this a have it all build.
With this budget I would highly endorse stepping foot on the OLED train, either at 4k with this MSI option or 1440p Ultrawide with this classic Alienware option, currently available at a nice discount.

Case
CORSAIR iCUE 5000X RGB MID TOWER GAMING CASE Great airflow and aesthetics, with high end components you want a decent case so your parts won't get cooked.
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Eight Core CPU (Up to 5.2GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) The best gaming CPU currently available
Motherboard
ASUS® TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI (AM5, DDR5, PCIe 4.0, Wi-Fi 6) Gigabyte X870E is OOO, but for a gaming CPU you're not losing anything vital with this motherboard, and it is also a bit cheaper
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 6000MHz CL36 (2 x 16GB) 6000MHz is the sweet spot for AMD CPUs
Graphics Card
16GB ZOTAC GEFORCE RTX 5080 SOLID OC - HDMI, 3 x DP The 5090 would blow your budget, and while it is the best, we would not recommend it value wise
1st M.2 SSD Drive
512GB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 4700MB/sW) Fast primary drive for Windows and programs
1st M.2 SSD Drive
4TB CORSAIR CORE XT MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 5000 MB/R, 4400 MB/W) Large, fast drive for your games and other documents
Power Supply
CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ ATX 3.1, MODULAR, CYBENETICS GOLD A little bit of headroom in case you want to nab an upgrade down the line, the argument is there for the 1200W option too.
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR ICUE LINK TITAN 280 RX RGB HIGH PERFORMANCE CPU COOLER High quality cooler to help get the hot air out of your case
