My First PC Build

This PC build will mainly be used for Gaming and Streaming with minimal editing work. So far I am not sure what Monitor I would want preferably for 1440 gaming (I am open to suggestions). My main concern with this build is the iCue compatibility with my cooler and the RGB case fans which has resulted me waiting over a month now to purchase haha. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I am also hoping to be able to nap one of the Nvidia RTX 3060's later this month to add to the build.

Looks great! You definitely want 3060Ti for a 1440p monitor or 3070 for ultrawide, if you wish... Ideally for streaming you may consider an 8-core CPU (5800X), but 5600X is pretty good too!

I'd up your PSU to 850W just to have more room in case you change a GPU in future. Drop Bullguard - you can get a better antivirus or simply use a Windows Defender.

500D is a very nice case :)

I would love to go for something like the 3060Ti if they were to be in stock again haha but I feel that is the opinion of a lot of people at the moment! I know this build will take some time to get to me so hopefully some will be in stock soon however I am doubtful.

I don't know if I just missed the 850w rmx being in stock plus for only an extra £3 that seems like a good deal!

Thank you my friend!

It's up to you - wait until PCS get you a 3060Ti and build in your PC, or fish that around by yourself ;)

3070 is king at 1440p. You can get away with 3060ti if you lower some graphics etc. But... i think the 3060ti is £200 cheaper or so, so if you can live with some graphics turned down... i’d go 3060ti, but not 3060.

With the RTX 3000 series shortage. Would you suggest its a better idea to preorder a 3070 or 3060ti card with the build through pcspecialist or wait for when nvidia start stocking themselves?

I believe pcs are receiving decent stocks of 3070s

Best to pre-order one. You know it’s coming then. If you find one online before it goes into build you can always amend your order and remove the gpu from the order

I did a bit of research again on the 3060ti and 3070 and don't know if I could justify spending another £150 on the 3070 from the 3060ti. I have currently added the 3060ti to my order which I am happy with! especially since I was originally going to go with the 3060. Later down the line if the 3080's appear again at a reasonable price I might make the leap.

Thank you guys, your help has been much appreciated since I have been a console gamer for a long time and glad I am making the right move to pc!

yeah unless you're going real high end 1440p or Ultra wide you don't need 3070

The 3070 would only really be for ultrawide or for squeezing every FPS out of 1440p. I personally wouldn't aim for 144hz on any gaming rig, anything over 80FPS would see me happy..... but you do need the headroom of a 144hz monitor to make the most of any matched GPU so I think the 3060Ti and 1440p are a perfect pairing.

I would change it up a tiny bit otherwise:

Your build is screaming out for the 5800X. Everything you have in place warrants it, as does your streaming uses.
Storage - I would recommend a 500GB M2 primary, a 1TB M2 PCS Game drive (The cheaper option) and a 2TB Sata Conventional 7200RPM drive. The Game drive can also be used for cache for the streaming if the game is on the primary drive (Only keep 1 or 2 games on the primary with windows).
Drop Bullguard.

Otherwise, looks perfecto to me.

Thank you for the advice! I was trying to talk myself out of the 5800X last night but I do want to make my streaming capabilities as easy as possible down the line which does look like the 5800X to be the more desirable choice, especially considering the price difference.

I'm sorry if this seems like a complete novice question but for the 2TB Sata drive would that be more used for archiving? And what would the benefits be comparing that to a 2TB SSD? Again apologies if it is a novice question

The 2TB Sata would be purely for backing up & archiving documents, video's, etc. Things that don't warrant an SSD. Watching a recording on an SSD doesn't make it any better than an HDD, same with viewing pics, documents etc. Sure.... they may load 0.5s quicker but it doesn't make much odds. The huge plus is that it's FAR cheaper per GB than any SSD storage option.

You're basically putting your system into buckets:

Stupid Super fast - Windows, programs & a game or 2
Super fast - Games & cache for streaming/editing
Conventional - Backup, archive and if required additional storage for lesser played games.

Thank you for clarifying!

So what i am looking at just now is:

First drive: 500GB Samsung 970 Evo Plus m.2
Second drive: 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus m.2
SATA: 2TB Seagate Barracuda, 7200RPM

Does that sound about right?

I would opt for:

500 980 Pro for the primary
1TB PCS for the secondary
2TB Barracuda for the generic.
