Need Advice On First PC

I’m looking to build a new PC with a budget of around £2000 and would really appreciate some advice and input as I have never built a PC and don't know what to look for.


This machine is going to be for gaming and working as a software developer/Game developer in the future after finish my computer science course at uni, so I need something that’s powerful enough for compiling code, running multiple dev tools, and handling 3D rendering, while also being the perfect gaming in my downtime. I have never built a PC before and have only ever used my gaming laptop and need an upgrade, a list of the parts to make this PC would be greatly appreciated.

i was looking to buy a pc from pcspecialist but I'm not sure what parts it needs as there is loads to choose and I'm not sure which is the best for the money I want to spend

Ah ok, from what you'd initially said it sounded like you were after a self build.

In that case let us proceed, your budget will limit you to an entry level 1440p system, be aware of that, prices are still exorbitantly high across the board, so adjust your expectations accordingly.

Worth reading this as PC gaming takes some knowledge of graphics settings you can disable or reduce without affecting visual fidelity but greatly improving FPS, there is no such thing as "Ultra Graphics", it's only used for benchmarks to give same settings between all independent testers.

If you can spend little more than £2000 (10% more), this is a very good build for your needs, in my opinion.

N.B. If you consider transferring your current OS license, you can save £110.

This would be my suggestion, it's cut back to get it to budget, but it's stuff you can add on later as you go

It's only got the one SSD currently with the expection you'd add another dedicated games SSD in the future (Gen 4 would be fine), and a good 7200rpm HDD for long term storage. Then when rendering, you'd want the live project files and assets on a dedicated Gen 5 SSD also.

The rest is a solid base with room to grow.

I've left out the windows license as you're a student so you'd get one far cheaper or even free using your Uni account.
