New build, can it run ArmA 3 on MAX settings without excessive bottleneck/heat?

Yes this will probably run Arma 3 on max settings at 1080p, although you are going for huge overkill with the RAM, for gaming 8GB would be more than enough (16GB would be overkill but still better than 32GB). I would also advise against the v300 series of SSD, they have long and well documented performance issues. Spend some of your RAM savings and get the HyperX or Samsung. You should also get the 750GB Scorpio black instead of the 1TB HDD, the Scorpio is much faster. Silver warranty for £5 is a must too..

When I was researching buying my laptop at the end of last year the rule of thumb seemed to be that the 980m was equivalent to the desktop 770.

According to this benchmark SLI 770s run Arma III at 70fps @ 1920x1200.

They used an i7-4770K in the test so I imagine the 4810 to be able to keep up since it can turbo boost up to 3.8Ghz.

So I'd say that you'd have no problems with Arma III on that Vortex.

You may still have problems with Arma 3 because it is poorly optimized. Benchmarks may show good results but you may get stuttering and slow downs or a poor minimum fps. Look at this video of it running on a GTX 980 and a 4.2 Ghz i5. SLI 980M outperforms a single GTX 980 most of the time so that may help if the game supports it. Just imagine how much more impact there will be on the fps during battles. Look at how the fps drops to the 30's when he gets in the Heli.

Based on the suggestions above I've edited the memory to the recommended and added anti virus, I decided to stick with the 32gb ram as although it's massive overkill for 100 quid extra it's better than drinking it down the pub, I'm getting it tax free too which is clearly a bonus! What would be the best blu Ray drive? to keep me occupied on deployments that's the only improvement I can think of now. Cheers guys.

I have 16GB of RAM and am running Windows 8.1. Even during gaming for hours, Ive never seen more than 4GB used. There may be some times where 5-6GB is used but 32GB? No chance. Unless you have specific reasons for 32GB then it will be a complete waste of money.

This I my latest set up I was thinking the ssd could be for my OS and various games and the other hard disk could be a media centre for entertainment when I'm away from home. Comments/suggestions welcome.

I would go with a single gpu, 8gb ram and upgrade in a couple of years rather than going with a SLI set up. 1tb SSD seems excessive, the difference with most games when loading from an SSD may not be noticeable.

You could spend £2500+ on a much better desktop, 1440p monitor and peripherals.

Spending that much to game on a small 1080p laptop screen seems madness. You can game on a 28" 1080p monitor with a desktop for under a £1000.

True unless they absolutely must have the portability, however Ive heard quite a few say they bought a laptop that always remained on their desk or just to avoid untidy cables. I use a zip up cable tidy and if they really have a lack of space, they can go Micro or Mini.
