New Build

Hi all,

Just looking for some feedback on what I plan to grab in the next few months.
Used for gaming (any games inc sim racing), recording, occasional stream.. all at 1080p :D
My current build is 10 years old (i7-4790 GTX 980) so hoping the new goes some distance too.
My mind is pretty set on on the 9070 XT, I did consider B850 as a short term upgrade especially when the 9070 was way overpriced around launch. Nvidia no longer worth in the range I'm looking at though I'll miss the Shadowplay recordings.

The 9070XT is probably overkill for 1080p, but as you've specifically stated you want that, I've left it in. Just tweaked some of the config to give you the same storage amount (2x4TB vs 1x8TB) to save some cash to use elsewhere (motherboard, PSU, case, fans).

Case
CORSAIR 3500X ARGB TEMPERED GLASS MID-TOWER (PCS) - would prefer the Corsair FRAME 4000D here, but only the white version is showing the configurator currently (the black 4000D is an older/more basic model)
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Eight Core CPU (Up to 5.2GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) - no change
Motherboard
GIGABYTE X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7 (AM5, DDR5, M.2 PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 7) - higher tier motherboard using the savings from the SSD changes
Memory (RAM)
64GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz CL30 (4 x 16GB) - no change, but question the need for 64GB
Graphics Card
16GB SAPPHIRE PULSE RADEON™ RX 9070 XT GAMING - 2 x HDMI, 2 x DP - no change
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB CORSAIR ELITE MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 7000 MB/R, 6200 MB/W) - swapped to a more reliable brand (have had no issues with these in the 5 or so years they've been available)
1st M.2 SSD Drive
4TB CORSAIR MP600 PRO NH NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 7000 MB/R, 6500 MB/W) - split the storage in 2 for the sake of any failures/upgrades and for better housekeeping...about £100 cheaper this way too
1st M.2 SSD Drive
4TB CORSAIR MP600 PRO NH NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 7000 MB/R, 6500 MB/W) - split the storage in 2 for the sake of any failures/upgrades and for better housekeeping...about £100 cheaper this way too
Power Supply
CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ ATX 3.1, MODULAR, CYBENETICS GOLD - higher tier PSU, with more room for upgrades, and will run more efficiently too
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR NAUTILUS 360 RS ARGB HIGH PERFORMANCE CPU COOLER - decent AIO to help maintain the peak 9800x3D boost clocks, fans also match those in the case
Thermal Paste
STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING - no other paste needed as the Corsair AIO comes with pre-applied paste
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
ONBOARD 2.5Gbe LAN PORT
Wireless Network Card
NONE OR ONBOARD Wi-Fi (MOTHERBOARD DEPENDENT)
USB/Thunderbolt Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS

Thanks Tony, appreciated.

No real need for the 64GB ram, 32 would certainly be plenty for sure.
An extra m.2 with a better motherboard is an awesome suggestion thanks, could run steam games of one and epic/gog of another as an example and if one dies I always have something to play (not that I don't have consoles on the go too :D)
I have considered a higher psu but didn't really see a benefit as I don't tend to upgrade, as per current build I run it till it's so outdated a new whole system is needed :D
Oh liquid cooling, maintenance and failures scare me but I'll keep it under consideration.

Again many thanks.

I have 4 games SSDs of 2TB-4TB each, containing Steam, Epic, GamePass, and 'others'.

There is no maintenance on a closed-loop AIO liquid cooler. It's sealed for life. You may be confusing it with an open-loop liquid build where you have all that sickly looking glowing liquid in tubes...as that does need maintenance.
No real need for the 64GB ram, 32 would certainly be plenty for sure.
The only 'game' where 64GB might be advised is MSFS2024...and then only if you run lots of mods/plugins.
I have considered a higher psu but didn't really see a benefit as I don't tend to upgrade, as per current build I run it till it's so outdated a new whole system is
The PSU just gives you more headroom if you wanted a GPU upgrade in 3-5 years time. No point splashing out another £2500 when the rest of the system is still working well, when you could simple grab a 4K GPU for £100 in 3-5 years time...if the PSU is up to it. So a £50 spend now could save you spending £1500 than you need to.
