Hi everyone,
After 13 years with my previous desktop from PCS, it's finally time to get a new one! I've had a read of other similar threads here to get an idea of recommended specs, but any advice on this spec would be really helpful thanks. It'll mainly be used for gaming and internet browsing/watching media.
I've got a new monitor recently which is 27inch 4k 160hz (MSI MPG 274URF QD), though for budget reasons I'm fine with not having a graphics card powerful enough for 4k gaming at the moment, as I would like to upgrade the graphics card in 3-5 years. I've got lots of old games that I haven't even started playing yet, and I think the most graphically demanding of those is Red Dead Redemption 2, so I'm hoping to save some money on a mid range graphics card, while having the rest of the PC being able to support a future upgrade in graphics card (as I'd like this PC to last 10 years too ideally).
A few thoughts:
For the casing I also really like the Fractal North TG Gaming Case, as I prefer the look of it and the slightly narrower width would fit better under my PC desk than the Corsair Frame 4000D, but when I tried the spec below with this casing, it said the graphics card was too long at 320mm and that the maximum was 300mm when combined with the selected cooler - should I stick with the Frame 4000D casing to allow space for a future graphics card upgrade, or would picking a different cooler solve this issue and allow me to choose the Fractal North TG case?
For the motherboard I have no idea what the differences are between motherboards so I just picked one that someone suggested on another spec - any thoughts on whether this is right or I should choose and different one would be particularly helpful.
For the budget under £2k would be good, though this could stretch by a few hundred over that if there's a really good reason, but in general the cheaper the better while also being good enough to last for a long time and support a future graphics card upgrade.
Here's the spec I've come up with:
