Great. I don't really think it's a great build. I'd have questions over
  • CPU
  • SSD
  • Hard drive
  • Power supply
  • Cooling
I'd be inclined towards the 7800X3D unless you have anything that's massively multithreaded? In games the 7900X3D will perform worse than the 7800X3D and significantly worse than the 9800X3D.

For the storage, you have a massively fast primary SSD, which doesn't really make sense for the uses you're mentioning. PCIe 5 SSDs are amazing but show no real-world benefit in a regular consumer system: they only make sense in servers. I'd suggest a 1TB boot drive, and then a 2TB secondary SSD to put games and dev work on.

The 8TB hard drive is (a) massive and (b) slow. I'd suggest spending more to get the Ironwolf drive, or getting something smaller. 8TB is a massive amount of slow storage -- what will you be using it for?

The power supply is not good enough. It's a value-oriented unit and you need something much better. I wouldn't recommend under the RM1000e for your system.

Finally the cooler is not a great choice: it's a fairly weak liquid cooler that isn't going to be amazing for cooling, noise or reliability. I'd suggest at least a Corsair 240mm unit.

So my last questions would be to check what you really need in terms of storage and CPU, and precisely what you mean by "approx €3000". Would €3300 be within budget? That's what my "no holds barred" system would come to, but you could get away with cheaper depending on your answers to the above questions.

Hi
Thanks for the advice. Regarding the drives, I figured everything I use day to day for both gaming and dev would be on the SSD and the hard drive would be for source files, videos etc. I only picked 8TB because the price difference from 4 to 8 was small so I figured I might as well future proof. I've taken on board the advice and removed that and gone for two SSDs instead - a 4TB second SSD should give me enough space to not need an additional hard drive..

I didn't have specific multithreading requirements for the CPU, I just checked some top level benchmarks on Tom's hardware and the 7800X3D seemed decent. I've updated the CPU, Power Supply and cooling. There were various different Corsair cooler options and I don't really know what is best but I chose the liquid one as I figure that would be quietest?

PCSpecialist gave a warning with this configuration that the power supply was overspecced and they'd recommend a 750W so is that definitely necessary?

Here's the configuration now, it's around 3,200 which is ok for me.

Great -- this is a much better build. The 7800X3D is decent, but you had the 7900X3D (bigger numbers aren't always better!). The 9800X3D is better still. I hadn't realised how cheap the Samsung SSDs are at the moment: I wouldn't spend more on them, but since they are cheaper than slower alternatives, they'd be a great shout. (But make sure you have proper backups, obviously.)

For the PSU, yes, it is technically overkill, but it's a sensible kind of overkill. It means you're well supplied for not just now, but any reasonable future upgrade, as well as getting the benefits of increased efficiency and quietness. For €54 I think that's well worth it.

Here's the build you have but with the config link included in case anyone else wants to throw their thoughts in.
