New PC, high temps?

Hello, so I just received my PC and I've done all the necessary updates.. but I've noticed my temp seems a little high on idle, especially with having a h100x fitted. Shouldn't it be 30-40 on idle? It hasn't dipped from 40, ranges between 40-60c and it will occasionally spike to 70.

I'm not sure if I'm just looking at the wrong part of CPUID, but here it is.

My room is quite warm, but I'm guessing a majority of the heat is coming from the PC itself as I don't have any other appliances on right now. As for testing, not really sure if you mean if I've played a game or done any benchmarking but no, I haven't done either of those things yet.

Did you order with windows or without?

So with windows 10, on a new installation, it will take a day or two to go through various background processes like indexing and other things.

Just because you're not running anything, doesn't mean it's idle. If you open up task manager and sort by CPU activity, see if there's anything using CPU?

It does seem like it's doing something, though it's very little - the CPU percentage ranges for 1~4% when I'm not doing anything. I guess I should wait a few days and see what happens?

Hmmm, if cpu usage is that low it does suggest something’s amiss either with the heatsink fitting or the paste application.

Next thing to try is install Prime95 from here:

Then run a stress test in the cpu and monitor temps whilst it’s running. If it gets over 95c, end the test and post back.

I ran the test for a few minutes and it stayed between 60-70c, I also noticed that the cooler clicks a lot - is that usual for AIOs? I really hope I don't have to get this RMA. :(

EDIT: I've since installed FFXIV and I've also noticed the fans speed keeps increasing, the temp reached to 81 for a split second before going back down again.

Well, those temperatures aren’t bad.

With a new AIO, again it can take a few seconds for any air bubbles to work their way out of the system and that may be what the clicking is.

If the clicking continues on though, it could be a problem with the pump. If that's the case, best to record the sound and log it with PCS, they'll know what it is.

The clicking noise started from the moment I got the PC, and does so every minute or so. I dunno, I'm at a loss.

As I thought, I already sent one last night just to be safe. Off topic, but I also noticed some coil whine with the GPU. Can't pretend I'm not a little disappointed, but oh well.. Thanks for your advice. guys.
