New PC Monitor saying no signal

I have just gotten my new pc today, I have followed the instructions on the side of the case to connect all cables and then connect the power supply and then turn the system on. The pc comes on and the lights from the case come on but the monitor still says no signal. I have tried the HDMI and Display Port connections but neither working.
any help?!

Hi I managed to get through to someone on the phone they've helped me restart it and said it was due to static I think?
