New to pc gaming, spec check

Alright guys, I'm currently looking to buying myself a pc for gaming... Always had consoles but really wanting to make the switch over.

I've currently made a spec of what I've been told to go for on the past, with the hopes of high 1080p to entry/middle tier 1440p gaming.

Looking for any advice on what to change and why. If this seems decent it'll be getting ordered ASAP! 😂

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Not sure if that configuration has pulled through correctly as it's showing a very low end system that wouldn't be at all suitable for gaming.

If you could follow this link and feed back with what we need to help you out it would make a massive difference :)

£1700 is a decent budget for a 1440p system so I would probably look at that, over a 1080p system. It's going to offer a far better experience overall and not actually cost you that much more to get. There's a decent offer on an excellent 1440p monitor with PCS right now. You could get everything in the one place.

Overall this is a far better system, it's well balanced and it comes with the perfect monitor to pair with it.

Thank you. Can I ask your opinion on somthing and I know it may annoy you. Since I've been looking at pcs, almost everyone has steered me towards amd as it's "better for gaming".

Is this true or are these usually the words of "fan boys" I personally don't mind what brand I use, so long as it isn't subpar to what I could have had for the same money.

Thank you for taking your time to do this.. Its greatly appreciated.

Up until the latest offerings from Intel, the 12 series, everyone here would have recommended AMD too. I doubt that it's fanboy syndrome, although that may be part of it from what you have been reading, it's more likely a 2nd hand opinion. Most on here try to stay in touch with the latest tech and offerings, as it's our hobby more than anything else. This means that we can be very quick to react to change, especially when positive. Outside of the enthusiast forums you will likely hear/see opinions from people who don't really have their finger on that pulse and so are potentially offering opinions based on out-dated information.

The irony is that there was a huge resistance to change from the Intel fan generation when Zen3 was released. Zen3 pretty much wiped the floor with Intel in every area metric. It was great to see as Intel were completely fleecing consumers and resting on their laurels. It took this battering from AMD for Intel to finally get their finger out and release a decent product. The same as what you have been seeing now was true then, only the opposite way around. Enthusiasts recognised the slam dunk from AMD and recommended these systems, where others would just assume Intel was still the best because they had been previously and everything they read previously said so. It's always difficult swimming against the current of folklore but we try our best.

12th gen chips are by no means perfect, they use a lot of juice still as they haven't got the node size down yet... which leads to higher temps. All manageable though and Intel are now the performance king for gaming, as well as value.... hence we recommend them for the most part. Only high end multi-core use would warrant AMD now (5950x).
