No picture on monitor?

Hi guys, was playing on my desktop earlier, had a powercut and now when I turn it on I don't get any signal on the monitor. There is definitely power going to it because I can hear the cpu cooler and the fan controller is lit up.

I have tried:
A different monitor
Hdmi instead of dvi
Taking out the graphics card and plugging straight into the mobo.

I'm out of ideas, does anybody else have any please? If not I guess I will have to try ringing PCs after the bank holiday :(

Try resetting the bios by clearing the CMOS.
You can do this by removing the CMOS battery for a minute, (make sure you replace it exactly as it was) or another way to clear the CMOS is to short the "CLEAR CMOS" jumper on your motherboard, assuming you're motherboard has a jumper,check your motherboard manual on how to do that if it's an option.
Failing this a power surge may have damaged the motherboard or some other component,hopefully not.

One other thing I know of to try is remove power cable from computer,and also power connectors to all components,motherboard,hard drives,optical drives,graphics card and whatever else,then reconnect everything.
There's no guarantee this will work so if you're not keen on doing that and no other suggestions are offered,probably best call tech support when they open again.

You could try simply unplugging the pc and leaving it for a day (and switch off psu)? I've heard of this working in the past. Also do try the CMOS battery too as Vanthus suggested! Also - what beeps are your pc making on boot?

Yeah thanks will give it a go.. Already tried the CMOS.
It's not beeping at all.

Does it usually beep? Most motherboards beep once to show all is ok. I would check your motherboard manual!

Thanks for the help guys, tried it all but nothing has worked. Googled "p8z77-v no beep" and the ones I looked at all seemed to suggest problems with RAM, so tried one stick at a time in different slots but that didn't work either :(


Guess I will have to ring pc specialist for some help on tuesday.

It might also be worth trying to re-seat your GPU and make sure everything is plugged in correctly (ie all the power cables etc are plugged both into your PSU and into the components they are attached to).

From the site I posted earlier it suggests no beep code could mean "No Power, Loose Card or Short". Now a short is obviously the worst case here as it could mean something is damaged, but no power/loose card should be able to be rectified fairly easily.

As I suggested in post 2,if it failed to start first time after the power was restored when you had the power cut it's possible a power surge has damaged the motherboard or some other component,especially if not using a surge protector.

Customer terms and conditions. 6.3.

+1 - Also, surge protectors are no more expensive than a lot of extension sockets (I have the UFO one from PCS and its excellent!)

No, didn't have any signal to do it with, but plugged the GPU back into to the same slot anyway so shouldn't make a difference I think.

I use THIS surge protector, it cost me 40 quid so not going to be happy if it went wrong...

Yes,that appears to be a surge protector,it's clearly marked on it. :)
Have you tried running the computer without using the surge protector,there's a chance the power cut could have damaged the surge protection unit.
