NVIDIA & AMD : #Opinions!

Last night, I spent so much time comparing the 2 cards, (Mainly 7950 and GTX 670) I looked at game benchmarks and the Heaven benchmark I think it was called. After a long time reading discussions on forums, it all still didnt help at all. lol On Forums elsewhere, seemed like you just got your AMD fans, or your NVIDIA fans!

Some say an AMD OC'd 7950 is so much better with the new drivers and that people look too much at older benchmarks before the new drivers were released, saying that it can reach the performance level of a stock 7970 or a GTX 670, but at the expense of power consumption (I think), although I don't think the new AMD cards use up too much power anyway. Then the NVIDIA fans response was that they will outperform AMD when they release newer drivers too. lol. It just got ridiculous and really funny watching all these people rant and rave over GPU's. :D People also said 7950s clock much easier, better and more stable than GTX 670s, and that power boost interferes with overclocking or something. I know im speaking very vaguely, bare in mind all this type of stuff is very new to me. I read LOTS of things basically but im still at a standing point. :dots:

Ive been looking at an EVGA 670 Signature II 'Black & White', (With 2 Fans) OR the XFX 7950 OC Black Edition 'Silver & Red,' (With 2 Fans)

Obviously the 7950 is around £50-£60 cheaper. But at stock the GTX 670 Signature II is better. But I think BOTH could game at the same level of performance, (When you Overclock the 7950 just a tad bit more)

Gotta make a Decision. lol Plus i want to SLI/Crossfire in future. So i want to pick the right Card.

I have a GTX 680 and I'm saying get the HD-7950

Which Model/Brand GTX 680 do you have....? Im not only concerned for Performance, its also its cooling too because whatever card i choose, I will probably be SLI/Crossfiring it in the future. Also, whats your reasoning that i should choose it...? :) :whistling:

I think Narcotics got the Jetstream. Regarding cooling, I think any version of the gtx670/680 will offer decent cooling for SLI. I have the reference card and my temperatures are less than 30 iddle and around 60-65 when gaming.

To be honest, both cards are great. Like i said in my PM, the reason why i went for my EVGA 670 over a dual fan cooling design is because i wanted to see the GEFORCE GTX logo on the side when i look in my case :p (See pic, drewl)

I wouldn't bothered with SLI/Crossfire (personally). I'm just going to wait till this 670 starts to struggle with games, then replace it with a single better card that'll run games at max like this one does at present.

I agree with Keynes though, NVIDIA do release more driver updates than AMD.

I've been on both the red and green side. Started with a HD6670 (now keynes's :p), MSI Twin FrozrIII HD7850 and finally this 670.

For value to performance, i think the 670 is very hard to beat. If you have the spare money, go for it.

Sorry for the bulk of text :)

Yeah Corfate i also do want it to look slick too! When i get the Window side panel, I also want to add NZXT sleeved LEDS, and im not sure if i should go for the White ones or Blue ones... My CM Trooper case is Black. The EVGA GTX 670 Signature 2 is Black and White, and you can still kinda see the Logo on the side. :)

Similar idea but obviously thats a White Stryker case which is kinda identical to the Trooper. Its 680s ( But Lets imagine it white 670's in future, if it were my rig :) ) lmao

http://img.ncix.com/images/77327_2.jpg <<<<< I been tryna imagine that inside the Case, obviously its upside down there :D then I was thinking hmmm now imagine that with White, or maybe blue, NZXT sleeved kit fitted inside around the Window Panel, then Swap the 2 Red 120mm LED Fans that come with the Trooper for some nice White LED ones, and flip the cages To Mount from the Front. :)....?

Yes I have the Palit GeForce GTX 680 Jetstream.

Looks like a good plan/idea to me :)

when i was considering the 670 you're linking, the plastic around the 670 to me looked slightly cheap and tacky, I'm not sure if this is just me, but it was a factor i considered :p

That 670, white LED's (I have some in my case), all inside a black case would look sweet :) Some white led fans would go down a storm :) No pun

Yeah after I get the window panel i eventually want to go for a Blue effect or a White effect, with the Sleeved Kit and LED Fans. :) #Havent fully decided on that part yet though. But i guess if i got a Black and White GPU it would benefit the Black and White idea, like in that last link of some one elses CM Storm Trooper. I saw that and fell in love :D

Also, did you mean the black and white Signature 2 670 plastic...? Looks abit tack and cheap...? Hmmmm :whistling: lol whats wrong with it..? :D

Yeah, the white looked tacky to me when i was considering it. Looks good in a white themed case though :)

Ahhh, decisions decisions :taz: Driving me mad :( I know people cant make the choice for me, but boy, I wernt expecting all this when getting my new PC at all :D The more you get into Custom PCs the more it seems like it could become an obsession!

Im guessing my PC will be here next week maybe, and ile be sat there with an Empty Trooper case and no GPU from still not deciding on the 7950 or 670.

What other EVGA 670 would you recommend..? I wouldn't really want to go over 60 in temps. 65 seems really hot. 70 would be a joke.

They are designed to run up to like 125c before shutting down :p

My 670 runs between 60-70c in games usually :)

lol i've had my top 580 into the 90's :)

its fine really, it will shut down to protect itself neway. Just dont run no programs like furmark, cause they really can damage cards, so i've heard.

GPU's are made to withstand high temps,my own GPU can hit 86C when running crysis or farcry 3,it doesn't affect performance in an any way.

Wow! You lot actually dont care about Temps :D lol I thought that high temps will make the GPUs fail or break down very early on.... :whistling:

I feel to cry :( lol Cant believe I STILL cant even make up my mind about what GPU to get, this is a joke! [rollinglaugh]
