Omega Supreme Spec - Comments please...! Thanks!

I need Firewire for camera connectivity. I want Firewire 800 and this appears to be the only machine that offers it. (I'd buy a MacBook Pro and use Thunderbolt with the Firewire > Thunderbolt adaptor. I'd also like it for the weight. But, a similar specification would cost well north of £2000, which I can't justify.)

I will be running Photoshop on this with large files that I want to move around quickly, so this should cope.

Any views?

Thanks.

D.

Hi,

To be honest FireWire B (800) doesn't really work with Windows properly. Windows just doesn't know how to use it and consequently it drops the speed down to less than FireWire A (400). I use a lot of kit at work that connects large storage devices to a number of PCs and Macs and we don't use FireWire B anymore. When you monitor the speeds you are getting you see it drop down to speeds of 100-200 very soon after a data transfer starts. FireWire A does run nicely at 400. We mostly use eSATA and iSCSI these days but that doesn't help you.

For this reason I'd advise against spending extra money just to get FireWire B. FireWire B will work properly on a Mac but not using Windows (with Bootcamp).

Otherwise the laptop is a very nice spec.
