Optimus IV making quiet high pitched sounds

A high pitched although quiet sound seems to come from the right hand side of my keyboard ( around the number pad area), I'm not sure if its the keyboard but its something around that area. I do have really sensitive hearing so if I'm any closer than 0.5m I can hear a quiet crackling/static noise. I only noticed this yesterday as I didn't have my headset on and the room was completely quiet. Any idea's what it is? or if it's normal for some noise like this.

i get this too, it's getting on my nerves. did you move your HD to bay 2?

I originally had a 500GB Scorpio Black, vibrations where pretty intense when it was in HD bay 1. Moved it to bay 2 and the vibrations where gone, but I could hear the 'whooshing' fan type noise, this was at idle! lol
Currently have a 750GB Scorpio Blue, vibrations pretty much gone, however can hear a 'hum' with a constant pitch, sounds like a transformer, although I suspect it to be the HD. Whooshing noise is greatly reduced also.

Maybe Western Digitals' Scorpio range is just noisy?
Who manufactures the unbranded "500GB SATA HDD (5,400)" ?
My cooling off period runs out tomorrow, so not sure if I want to do my 3rd RMA and then find out it's normal for my laptop and lose my refund :(

hmm, does it sound like fan noise?

or hard drive noise? what drives have you both got?
It's not fan noise I'm 100% sure.
I have a SSD so it shouldn't be noise from that.
I'm not sure if its of any significance but the noise originates from the right hand side of the keyboard around the number pad area.
The noise is a mix between quiet crackling/static and sometimes a very quiet but high pitched noise. Both are quiet enough that I generally won't notice unless I literally have my face in front of my screen.
If anyone else has a laptop can they do a check to see if they get any similar noises

I think its around the back right as well.

Could you do a little test for me?
When you hear the noise, close your laptop lid, this should knock your laptop into stand-by.
Open your lid and log back on, is the noise still there?

When I do it, it completely kills the buzzing noise. However, the noise usually returns with 5-10 minutes.
Usually the fan kicks in then cuts off, the buzzing noise returns. So this had led me to believe it's actually the fan after all, or at least connected to the cooling system. Thoughts?

After doing some tests it seems that the noise increases when the gpu is under more stress. Anyone any ideas on how to fix this or anything?

I've heard something occasionally but figured it was coming from a speaker on the right hand-side?

I still get the noise when my headset is plugged in so I would assume it's not the speakers. My graphics card seems to be running fine at around 40-60 when playing games but I'm worried whether the noise could indicate a problem with the graphics card or whether it will still operate ok.
