Optimus IV Win8 upgrade

I decided to take advantage of the last few days of cheap Win8 upgrades but have run into a few issues. I did not do a clean install as I didn't want to have to install/download all apps/games again.

1) The speakers have stopped working (going through the forum this looks like a known issue with a bios fix but I haven't been able to find a link to the update)

2) The VGA button (to switch between integated graphics and the 660m) doesn't do anything anymore.

3) I've noticed a significant drop in performance in gaming (Strike Suit Zero, Far Cry 3, Max Payne 3 all display very poor FPS)

Has anyone else here done the update? If you have, any tips/help?

1. You're best contacting PCS about the BIOS fix.

2. Considering you didn't do a clean install, you NEED to install new drivers for Windows 8! This is vital to fix #3. The Windows 7 drivers do differ a bit from the Windows 8 ones and have been known to give incompatibilities and where drivers don't update in the process they need to be done manually. The "Hotkey" drivers are the one that's stopping the VGA button working and I think you'll find that drivers directly relating to the Optimus IV will need to be re-installed.

Drivers for the Optimus IV can be found here! You're looking for the "W35xET/W37xET series" drivers. Obviously make sure you download the Windows 8 drivers. I have the Optimus IV and have always had Windows 8 on here and apart from the obvious BIOS issue at the start everything runs perfectly.

Granted Microsoft slipped up a bit as the Windows 7-8 upgrade was supposed to be painless, but obviously nothing is perfect.

Hope this helps ya.

thanks Pagey.

1) I've sent an email to PCS so hopefully they'll send me a link to the bios update. Headphone jack still work so at least I have that...

2) that worked! :)

3) uninstalled nvidia driver and resinstalled it again (same version) and that seems to have done the trick

the speakers have started working! I didn't change anything so I can only guess Windows made an update that got things going again.

they still don't sound great.... but never did so that's not a problem :p

Yup, that happened a lot to me too, they will come and go, the BIOS fix cures it completely.

they're sending me the update. I've noticed that I can get the speakers working again by sleeping/hibernating and then resuming again. Hopefully the bios fix will get rid of the issue entirely.

I can assure you it's a permanent fix. I even found that the audio issues go to the audio out for HDMI. It fixed that too, so it was an obvious issue.

When you've done the BIOS fix, I'll point you to one of my other threads to make the audio better. :)
